We Are All Trying Here follows a group of people trying to survive and thrive in the cut-throat world of film. The story revolves around Hwang Dong-man, a director-in-training who is not yet in his official debut but still has a hard time keeping his purpose and passion.
He is flanked by characters with as many layers as his, including producer Byeon Eun-a, known for her sharp personality and strict approach, but who also hides her own inner fears. Another key figure is Park Kyeong-se, a struggling director still suffering the aftereffects of a recent professional failure.
As their paths intersect again and again, personal and professional tensions begin to rise. As they all battle to advance in their careers, secret insecurities are revealed and relationships are made more difficult.
