Citadel – Season 2 Episode 1 “Baked Alaskas” Recap & Review

The Season 2 premiere of Citadel wastes no time throwing viewers back into a world of espionage, betrayal and deadly secrets. Episode 1, “Baked Alaskas,” introduces new threats, shocking revelations, and dangerous alliances that set the stage for another high-stakes season.
A Bloody Mission At Maxwell’s Party
The episode begins at a luxury boat party hosted by Maxwell Montaine, where a stranger bribes his way past security. Having fought through several guards he reaches the VIP section and forces Maxwell to reveal the location of Paulo Braga. Maxwell also verifies that the cargo Braga helped smuggle out of the United States was none other than Bernard Orlick.
This strong opening immediately establishes that Braga’s operation is bigger and more dangerous than previously imagined.
Braga’s Macabre Experiment in France
In France, Paulo Braga has kidnapped Bernard Orlick and has him build an advanced neural chip. The technology is used on Arnaud, the subject of a horrific experiment.
Braga brings Arnaud to a faraway forest to meet his brothers, Raphael, Mael and Louis. When the chip is activated, Arnaud briefly loses control of his mind and is manipulated into killing his own brothers.
The experiment works but Arnaud eventually comes to, proving that the technology is still unstable. Braga leaves it clear that Orlick is going to work until the chip is perfected.
Nadia Sinh and Asha Compelled to Run
Nadia Sinh meanwhile is in hiding in Germany with her daughter Asha. Their relationship is strained, clearly, as Asha tries to figure out why they are always running away.
Suddenly their safe house is compromised when a Manticore operative finds them. A brutal fight follows and Nadia barely escapes with Asha.
Asha survives the attack and asks her mother to teach her to fight so she can protect herself in the future. It’s an emotional moment that exposes the harsh reality of Nadia’s life.
Mason Kane is in a personal crisis
Mason Kane is living in Sweden as Kyle Conroy with his wife, Abby. But the return of his memories still strains their relationship.
Abby is having a hard time reconciling the man she married with the spy he used to be. Orlick’s family is currently hosting their daughter, Hendrix, which puts more strain on their already frail relationship.
Mason’s internal conflict is poised to be one of the major story arcs of the season.
Braga’s Deadline Changes Everything
Back in France, Braga learns that Russian President Dmitry Aronov will be in Scotland in ten days for the G8 summit.
Braga sees an opportunity and gives Orlick a terrifying ultimatum: perfect the chips in ten days or his daughter will be hunted down and killed.
Braga takes his son Edgar, Joana, and his security team to Paris, and Orlick sees a chance to escape. Finally he escapes, with the unexpected assistance of a shadowy operative called Hutch.
Hutch in Story
Hutch quickly becomes one of the most intriguing additions to the episode. Hutch is a former CIA operative who went rogue when he discovered that Braga was involved with terrorist financing and he’s got his own personal reasons for wanting revenge.
He talks Orlick into joining him, but they both know they’ll need more friends if they’re going to stop Braga.
Their chat suggests a bigger team coming together in upcoming episodes.
Nadia Discovers a Shocking Fact
Later, Nadia turns to Frank Sharpe, an ex-con artist who can create new identities.
At first Frank balks, saying he’s too compromised to help anyone, but he eventually reveals a devastating piece of information.
The mole who passed sensitive intelligence to Dahlia Archer was Mason Kane himself, according to Frank.
The revelation offers the biggest cliffhanger of the episode and raises major questions about Mason’s past.
Episode Summary
Citadel Season 2 is back with bigger stakes, darker themes and some interesting new characters.
The plot still follows some typical spy thriller tropes, but the emotional struggles of Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh offer a good undertone of tension. Mason’s identity crisis complicates his character even more, while Nadia’s role as a mother adds a more personal level to her journey.
Hutch is an unpredictable ally who makes an impressive first impression, and Paulo Braga establishes himself quickly as a ruthless and effective villain.
Overall, “Baked Alaskas” is an action-packed season premiere with plenty of intrigue, emotional conflict and enough twists to keep viewers invested in what comes next.
