Citadel – Season 2 Episode 7 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Citadel Season 2 Episode 7 Recap The episode starts with Orlick and his team arriving at a bleak scene. They find Mason dead and Nadia unconscious in a badly wounded car. The team rush Nadia to safety and tend to her injuries, while Orlick investigates what happened. Nadia figures it out and confirms the shocking truth… Abby’s the one who killed Mason. She’s been the assassin all along.
The scene then cuts to Abby, who murders two journalists and steals their press credentials to get herself inside the tightly guarded G8 summit.
Did Abby finish her mission?
Abby manages to sneak onto the summit grounds and quietly take out one of the snipers before taking his position.
Meanwhile Orlick plots a deadly plan to stop her. Despite her injuries, Nadia is not about to be left behind. Earlier Orlick had had a private word with Frank, telling him to kill Joanna and finish the job if anything went wrong. He also asks Frank to look after his family if he doesn’t make it.
Meanwhile, Joanna tells Aparna to stop Orlick and his men from reaching Abby, warning her that if she doesn’t she will lose her life.
During the infiltration, Frank assaults a police officer on patrol and steals his uniform. The rest of the team comes in with forged CIA credentials. Aparna puts up a valiant fight but eventually succumbs. Nadia goes forward to Abby while Hutch and Celine stay behind to help her out.
Elsewhere, Dahlia calls Malcolm, the trustee of Braga’s fortune, and threatens his daughter if he doesn’t transfer Braga’s entire estate to her.
From her hotel suite Joanna watches the Russian president arrive as events unfold, unaware that Orlick is already moving towards her location. He picks off a few of her bodyguards silently, before she even realizes she’s under attack.
Nadia finally finds Abby at the top. Nadia is forced to kill Abby when she refuses to give up on the mission.
What Comes Next?
The episode shows us what Orlick’s real plan B is.
Frank is a police officer and the man Orlick trusts to do the real job, using an explosive device disguised as part of his flashlight. Frank sticks the device near the president’s car.
The explosion creates chaos and Frank seems to help the president to safety. Instead he injects him with a deadly toxin which instantly kills him.
Orlick breaks into Joanna’s room and kills her at the same time, so both aims are attained.
The team regroups later at their hideout, but Nadia is devastated to learn that Orlick knew Abby was the assassin from the beginning and said nothing. Mason is dead, Abby is gone and Frank did the assassination under Orlick’s order.
Orlick justifies his actions by claiming that in a deal with the new Russian leadership, their sacrifice has bought them access to powerful satellite technology. He claims that this technology is finally going to allow them to destroy Manticore.
Nadia walks out, disgusted by his manipulation.
How Does Season 2 of Citadel End?
Orlick, Frank, Hutch and Celine went to a private plane where Dahlia was waiting. She is content with the death of Joanna, and assures that the fortune of Braga is safe.
Orlick uses that money to make a huge deal with the new Russian president, paying billions for control of the satellites.
But when he has them, Orlick tells Celine to destroy the entire network of satellites, because he believes no one person should have that much power at their fingertips. The satellites blow up, burning chunks of debris falling to earth like meteor showers.
Two months later Orlick visits the graves of Mason and Abby where Nadia is paying her respects. He asks her to join him on one last mission but Nadia refuses and opts to protect her daughter instead.
But Nadia is firm. Orlick warns that danger is still coming. Instead, she gives him the names of the remaining Citadel agents who might be able to help him continue the fight against Manticore.
The season ends with Nadia bursting into Aparna’s house and aiming a gun at her, hinting at a new partnership being on the cards.
Episode Summary
Episode 7 is a tense and emotional finale where Nadia is forced to make some very painful choices. She refuses to make the same mistakes the older generation did and chooses her daughter over the mission.
Orlick certainly changes her perspective when he betrays her. With Mason dead and Abby having to kill, Nadia begins to understand what Orlick will do in the name of the greater good.
Orlick, however, still sees himself as the indispensable leader who makes impossible decisions. As long as he brings Manticore down, all sacrifices are worth it to him. But his methods also raise an important question: Has he become the enemy he sought to destroy?
The cliffhanger ending has established a few storylines for a potential third season such as Nadia’s possible alliance with Aparna, the future of Manticore, and Orlick’s mission to reconstruct Citadel.
