Cassie is fully committed to her new online career in the beginning of Euphoria Season 3 Episode 5. And, suddenly, her video with Brandon goes viral. And she gains 17,000 new subscribers in less than a day. Major turning point in her burgeoning digital presence.
Maddy is quick to capitalize on the momentum, pushing Cassie through a grueling content schedule that finally gets her to the 50,000 subscriber mark. Together they meticulously build a public persona for Cassie, constructing a voice that speaks to the common person. Cassie cuts him off with her signature bluntness when someone calls her a Democrat on a podcast.
Cassie seems to be focused on her career and moving on from Nate, but it is obvious that she has not fully broken away from him. She slips him $35,000 in cash to stave off his eviction. Maddy’s online success suddenly has Nate’s support, but she’s suspicious he’s got his own agenda.
Cassie’s rising popularity makes her wonder if Nate is after her money, and especially because he could potentially take half her assets if she continues to succeed.
Brandon, who has been a big part of her rise, pushes her to get away from Maddy. He feels that Maddy is holding her back and assures her that, with the help of professional editors and videographers, Cassie could elevate things to a whole new level.
Nate, however, has some surprising advice of his own. When he sees all of Cassie’s content, he tells her she needs to think about doing more provocative scenes with Brandon to up her earning potential. Cassie is even more torn by his unexpected support.
Eventually, Cassie reaches out to Maddy, who learns that a lot of her alleged clout-chasing might be overblown. Maddy pulls out a contract, urging her to sign it immediately. Cassie is surprised that she would sacrifice her career. Cassie signs the agreement immediately without reading the details.
It soon becomes apparent that Maddy has been bluffing about a few opportunities. But Cassie manages to get one for herself, using her connection with Lexi and landing an audition. The director is impressed with the performance, but Lexi is frustrated.
Meanwhile, Nate’s financial problems continue to spiral. He misses another payment, and Naz sends his men to brutally remind him of the consequences.
In the meantime, Alamo prepares to retaliate against Laurie and her organization in the wake of the stolen drugs incident. Alamo, irritated by the delay of Eddy, suspects treachery everywhere and begins to doubt everyone around him.
Rue is summoned to a private meeting, where she learns that Laurie wants to meet with her. She passes the information on to the DEA immediately, who tell her to wear a wire and gather evidence that could finally put Laurie away.
Desperately seeking information, Rue follows a lead on a new courier. Later she visits Jules who tells her to forget her problems for a while. But as the night goes on, Ellis’ presence becomes uncomfortable. He makes it clear he doesn’t want Rue anywhere near his family.
Suspicion mounts after planted drugs are discovered back at Alamo’s operation. The evidence increasingly points to Rue and Alamo starts to piece together the inconsistencies in her story.
Later, when Rue meets Maddy to discuss business opportunities, Alamo suddenly shows up and pulls her aside. She is taken to a remote location and forced to dig her own grave, implying that her lies may have finally caught up with her.
Meanwhile Maddy is busy building her own empire and negotiating a deal with Alamo that could see her business grow in return for a percentage of future profits.
The episode concludes with a chilling cliffhanger as Rue is buried up to her neck, and Alamo approaches, prepared to make a final decision on her fate.

Episode 5 is another intense chapter, but also continues many of the ongoing inconsistencies of the season.
Cassie’s story arc is still one of the strongest elements, with her ambition, insecurity and poor decision-making all coming together at once. It seems rash to sign Maddy’s contract without reading it, but it’s very much in character.
Nate’s arc, though, remains an open question. His quick acceptance of Cassie’s new career path feels sudden, and his readiness to support increasingly provocative material doesn’t quite align with his previous characterization.
Finally, there’s some urgency to Rue’s story, with the DEA operation and Alamo’s growing suspicions bringing real tension to the episode. The last scene is easily the best moment of the hour.
Maddy remains one of the most interesting characters this season. Her ambition, confidence and her readiness to take risks always make her interesting to watch.
Euphoria Season 3 is still a far cry from the emotionally grounded storytelling that originally made the series stand out, though it still has moments of tension and strong performances.
