Meta Description: Off Campus Episode 3 cranks up the emotional tension as Hannah, Garrett, and Justin deal with jealousy, attraction, and complicated choices.
Fake Relationship Begins To Feel Very Real
By the time Off Campus Episode 3 comes around, it’s getting harder and harder to keep in mind that Hannah and Garrett are, in fact, just playing a game. What began as a symbiotic relationship is now wrapped up in jealousy, attraction, insecurity, and an increasing emotional attachment that neither of them appears ready to admit.
This chapter, entitled “The Orgasm,” is very much about Hannah’s internal fight, which is more than just physical. But underneath the comedy, the awkward sex, and the general college hijinks is an episode about vulnerability, self-doubt, and the terrifying realization that the person you’re supposed to not fall for may already be permanently etched in your brain.
And yes—this episode makes it impossible to ignore.
Hannah’s Journey for Confidence Takes a Twist
The episode begins with Hannah struggling to manage her growing excitement about finally getting laid with Justin. But rather than confidence, she is left frustrated, anxious and increasingly worried about whether she’ll be able to allow herself to enjoy the experience fully when the moment actually arrives.
That anxiety informs nearly everything she does in the episode.
Her telling Garrett that she’s meeting Justin for a songwriting session is worth a thousand words more than any words ever are. He tries to be supportive, but there is a definite pause, a moment when his carefully constructed emotional walls begin to crack.
It’s subtle but Off Campus is definitely not interested in pretending Garrett doesn’t care anymore.
Garrett’s Jealousy Is Harder to Conceal
Garrett’s day is not much easier. He’s already stretched emotionally thin with studying, with offers of sponsorship and with his friends pressuring him to work with his father on a promotional campaign.
It’s not the sponsorship subplot that makes these scenes work, but how it brings out Garrett’s deeper frustrations. Beneath all the bravado and the hockey star persona is a guy who’s still working through some unresolved issues about family, independence, and identity.
And Hannah walks right into the middle of that emotional maelstrom, not even knowing it.
When she later finds Garrett with Zoe, her reaction is immediate—and surprisingly strong. Hannah’s anger is almost instinctual, as if she forgot the “fake” part of their arrangement for a second.
Garrett doesn’t make it easy, either, reminding her that they aren’t exclusive.
argument chemistry? Easily some of the best material the season has had to offer so far.
Justin Looks Good… But something’s wrong
On paper, Justin should be everything Hannah wants.
He’s good looking, talented and has her love of music. This was supposed to be romantic, intimate, maybe even the start of something more.
Instead it feels … weirdly detached.
Hannah reveals the emotional inspiration behind her song, and Justin seems nonplussed. He offers to change the lyrics, but it’s not a warm exchange—the kind of emotional understanding Garrett has somehow developed with Hannah, despite their constant bickering.
Later, Justin finds the playlist Hannah made for him and her panic says it all. She’s afraid of looking obsessive, vulnerable, undressed.
But perhaps more telling is how little emotional comfort Justin actually provides in return.
And Meanwhile, Other Relationships Begin to Crack
Elsewhere, the episode quietly broadens its emotional palette via Allie’s storyline.
Allie hears the most exciting news: a chance with a Los Angeles talent agent – just the kind of career break she’s been dreaming of. But her conversation with Sean quickly turns into a fight instead of a celebration.
Sean’s dreams of a quiet future in Vermont are in direct contrast to Allie’s dreams, and the conflict between them is painfully accurate.
It’s one of the episode’s best reminders that college relationships don’t always end because people stop caring, but because their futures start heading in different directions.
Logan Quietly Gets Better
However one of the more surprising highlights comes from Logan.
His interactions with Hannah, particularly after he fixes her old car, add a surprising amount of heart and complexity to him. The fact that he’s doing hockey and real jobs gives him more than just comic relief.
And, perhaps more importantly…
It’s becoming increasingly obvious that Logan’s noticing Hannah in ways he probably shouldn’t.
That subplot is simmering for now, but the ground is definitely being laid.
Karaoke Night Makes All the Difference
If there is a turning point to this episode, it’s Malone’s karaoke night.
A few piña coladas and some encouragement from Garrett later, Hannah finally loosens up enough to take the stage — and what happens next may be the most telling moment of the episode.
Watching Hannah do “Cherry Pie” turns Garrett from mildly interested to utterly spellbound.
He couldn’t look away.
Nor can any other.
Even Garrett’s friends are beginning to see what’s painfully obvious… this is no longer a fake.
Garrett is falling for her,
Tough.
Final Scene of the Episode Changes Everything
A wild night ends with Garrett bringing Hannah and Allie back to his place. What follows could have easily turned into a typical drunken hookup scene — but instead, and surprisingly, Off Campus opts for emotional restraint.
When Hannah (in Garrett’s jersey) tries to seduce him, Garrett says no.
Not that he doesn’t want her.
Because he loves her.
That one decision could be the most appealing thing Garrett has done all season.
And then the morning after twist.
Justin texts Hannah to come over.
But instead of going after the guy she’s supposed to have been chasing…
She walks directly to Garrett.
And asks him for the one thing she hasn’t been able to get on her own.
Cue credits now.
And yes, it’s a killer cliffhanger.
Character Spotlight: Hannah Is More Confused Than Ever;
I find Hannah’s state of mind in this episode fascinating because her body says one thing, but her instincts say another.
She says that she wants Justin.
She keeps after Justin.
She can’t get Justin out of her head.
And still…
Her mind goes back to Garrett at the crucial times.
That fantasy of a Garrett retest? Not subtle.
Neither is the choice she makes in the final scene.
Hannah doesn’t know it yet, but she’s already beginning to feel things differently.
What Happens Next?
Several big questions hang at the end of Episode 3:
Will Hannah finally confess how she feels about Garrett?
Garrett is emotionally involved now in a way Hannah may not understand yet. If she keeps practicing on him and he keeps going deeper, heart break is imminent.
Is Justin really interested or just convenient?
Justin looks good on paper so far, but there is still an emotional disconnect.
Could Logan be a real complication?
There are subtle hints, but his growing interest in Hannah could make for a very messy triangle sooner rather than later.
Summary
Episode 3 of Off Campus stops being a fun college romance and becomes emotionally addictive.
Between Garrett’s obvious jealousy, Hannah’s mounting confusion, Allie’s relationship struggles, and a final scene that completely changes the stakes, this episode features some of the best character work of the season so far.
Rating: 8.8/10
Funny, awkward, emotionally messy, and more and more impossible to not binge.
