Meta Description
In WONDERfools Episode 2, the secret experiments, supernatural abilities, and deadly conspiracy unfold as Chae-ni’s powers spiral out of control.
Chae-ni’s mystery turns stranger
Just when The WONDERfools seemed to be getting into its quirky supernatural groove, Episode 2 throws that right out the window. The confusion about how Chae-ni could even possibly be alive first morphs into something much darker, with secret labs, lost memories, and children who may have been turned into living experiments.
This episode is not just about the world of the drama being expanded. It rips it open.
And truthfully? That’s what this show wanted.
Death, Survival, and Questions Without Answers
The emotional core of the episode is Un-jeong, who still can’t seem to process what he saw: Chae-ni dying… and then somehow alive a few moments later.
He has a clear picture of that image in his mind, and it sets the tone for all that follows.
Meanwhile, paramedics arrive and Chae-ni immediately goes into survival mode, telling Ro-bin and Gyeon-un not to talk about the fake kidnapping disaster. This is classic Chae-ni: chaotic, impulsive, yet somehow still trying to stay a step ahead of everyone.
But not everyone is fooled by the lies.
But at the police station, Un-jeong quickly sees that their story doesn’t hold water and refuses to officially take the case. You can feel him becoming suspicious in every scene.
And he has reason to be suspicious.
A Grandmother Sees What Medicine Cannot Explain
Jeon-bok has one of the more interesting threads of the episode.
Others worry about the strange behavior of Chae-ni, but Jeon-bok fears something more disturbing: her granddaughter’s body has changed.
Suddenly, blood clots disappeared from Chae-ni’s feet.
All gone.
And Jeon-bok’s reaction when the hospital confirms Chae-ni’s full recovery says it all. This is not relief.
That is fear.
That fear is what makes her reach out to Choi Yeon-jun… a man whose name is so much more chilling by the end of the episode.
Hospital Closet Becomes a Portal for Teleportation
If Episode 1 teased supernatural chaos, Episode 2 throws you right into it.
Chae-ni is talking about the fake kidnapping, and Jeon-bok hears her, so Chae-ni hides in a closet… and suddenly finds herself in a historical drama set.
It is absurd.
It’s fucking funny.
And it’s scary, as well.
Because it’s obvious that Chae-ni has no voice in this.
And a few moments later she’s back in the closet like nothing ever happened and leaves both her and the viewers grasping for answers.
This is the place where The WONDERfools makes one thing clear:
These are not “gifts.”
They’re a ticking time bomb.
The Hawondo Lab Secret Finally Starts to Unfold
The episode’s most chilling moments come via an elderly captive linked to the mysterious religious cult.
He starts hallucinating, and buried memories come flooding back: of working security at Hawondo Lab, where orphaned children were used for horrifying experiments under something called the Wunderkid Project.
Children
Chemically injected.
Children who developed exceptional abilities.
And then came the real bombshell:
Patient Number 3972 lived.
And that patient is Un-jeong.
This changes everything.
Then his nightmares, his obsession with Chae-ni, his instinctive suspicion, it all makes sense.
But it also raises a much larger question:
And Chae-ni was there too?
Ro-bin and Gyeon-un Find Themselves Changing, Too
The show smartly keeps the chaotic comedy alive through the larger conspiracy with Ro-bin and Gyeon-un.
Ro-bin’s powers emerge in a burst of rage when he accidentally punches a hole in a wall.
In some ways, Gyeon-un’s situation is even funnier and stranger, as he is literally stuck to his refrigerator in the middle of a conversation with his wife.
These moments are initially played for laughs.
But beneath the humor, there is something disquieting:
None of them know what they are turning into.
None of them look ready for it either.
Un-jeong crosses the line of danger
This is where Episode 2 gets a little darker.
Un-jeong doesn’t just suspect Chae-ni is immortal.
He decides to give it a go.
That decision transforms how we see him entirely.
He follows Chae-ni into the greenhouse, less investigator…more predator.
His suspicion deepens when he gets hold of the camcorder and watches the footage of Chae-ni’s death.
Then things go into a spiral.
Un-jeong has powers that seem to be a lot more destructive than anyone else’s, and she tears through the whole greenhouse while Chae-ni is still trapped inside.
That’s the most intense sequence of the episode, by far.
And visually it feels like the series that says it’s done playing small.
Chae-ni’s Power Leads Her to an Impossible Place
Just as it seems Chae-ni is about to be crushed by the collapsing building…
She disappears.
Not to a different room.
Not somewhere else.
To a ship near China.
Yeah. An entirely different country.
Jun-mo watches her GPS jump almost immediately, proving what viewers are already piecing together:
Chae-ni’s teleportation.
And by the look of horror on her face, she’s only just beginning to realise it herself.
Unfortunately her new destination isn’t exactly safe – because seconds later she is staring down the barrel of a gun.
Cue credits.
The Final Twist Changes Everything About the Villain Story
Just when it looks like Director Choi might be the big mastermind of the season…
The show takes the carpet from under us.
In the last scenes, Dr. Ha Won-do comes to visit his ex-employee.
And kills him.”
Cold.
Efficiently.
From nowhere.
No stop.
It’s the kind of ending that changes the entire power dynamic of the series.
Maybe Choi was the real monster.
Or maybe he was working for one of them.
Character Spotlight: The Most Fascinating Player in the Game is Un-jeong
Two episodes in, Chae-ni may be the heart of this story, but Un-jeong is fast becoming its most unpredictable force.
He’s in shock.
He remembers things no one else remembers.
He’s got some scary powers.
And now we know he’s a part of Hawondo’s experiments directly.
But what makes him interesting is that he doesn’t feel heroic… yet.
He feels dangerous right now.
And it’s that ambiguity that makes him impossible to ignore.
Theory Corner: Were all four of them part of the Wunderkid program?
Episode 2 drops enough hints to make one theory hard to ignore:
Chae-ni, Un-jeong, Ro-bin and Gyeon-un could all be ex-Hawondo test subjects.
Their powers’ timing.
Their mysterious connections.
Suddenly activated upon contact with the strange slime.
Nothing appears to be random.
Jeon-bok’s overprotectiveness also feels less grandmotherly and more… guilty.
Did she rescue Chae-ni from the lab all those years ago?
That theory feels as strong as ever at the moment.
Last Words
The WONDERfools Episode 2 is messy, ambitious, funny and sometimes overwhelming – but in the best way possible.
It’s a blend of comedy, sci-fi mystery, conspiracy drama and genuine emotional intrigue that never feels predictable.
More importantly, it finally exposes the larger mythology lurking beneath all the chaos.
And if Episode 2 is any indication…
This tale is about to get a whole lot darker.
Rating: 4.5/5 – Unpredictable, wild and impossible to take your eyes off.
