Mad Concrete Dreams – K-drama Episode 8 Recap & Review

The beginning of Episode 8 is a flashback to nine years ago. Kim-sun goes with Yi-gyeong to see a fortune teller. From the start, the meeting is tense because the fortune teller clearly doesn’t like Yi-gyeong for not listening to her earlier warning not to marry Hwal-sung. She says that Su-jong’s new building will eventually get him in trouble with the law during the session. She also says that Kim-sun could be arrested too, unless she does something.

Hee-joo invites Su-jong to her office for drinks in the present. She tells him not to trust Sang-ho because he is manipulative and only cares about money. She also tells Su-jong that he still owes her a bonus for helping him get Mr. Kim’s building deal, which makes him give her gift cards.

Su-jong starts to talk about his troubled marriage as the drinks start to work. Hee-joo says they should get a divorce, saying that he would probably have the upper hand when it comes to custody and assets. Su-jong, on the other hand, says he still loves his wife and blames himself for caring more than she does.

It doesn’t take long for it to become clear that Hee-joo has other plans. While he is drunk, she secretly records their conversation and takes embarrassing pictures. Then she sends the information to Hwal-sung and suggests a deal. Hwal-sung is also getting ready to accuse Yi-gyeong of hurting his wife.

Su-jong wakes up the next morning to a shocking news: Hee-joo is dead. At the same time, Hwal-sung goes to Kim-sun with the recordings and says that Su-jong is going to cheat on her and file for divorce. He knows the truth about Yi-gyeong’s kidnapping and the deaths of Dong-gi and Yang-ja. To give Su-jong the best chance in the divorce, he suggests framing her for everything.

Hwal-sung also says that he has had feelings for Kim-sun since they first met and has even imagined what life would be like with her. She gets mad at him for confessing, but he keeps pushing for an alliance against Su-jong.

Kim-sun is upset and calls Su-jong to say that he will meet him at Hee-joo’s office. Things get even more complicated when she gets there and sees the body. Su-jong is sure that Hwal-sung set up the whole thing to drive a wedge between them after hearing about the recordings.

In another place, Da-rae gets into Harvard but doesn’t tell her parents. A teacher calls them to invite them to a party, but Da-rae doesn’t answer Kim-sun’s calls.

Kim-sun and Su-jong decide not to call the police when they get back to work. They are afraid that Su-jong would be arrested for murder right away because of his recent connection to the kidnapping case. They agree to move the body and clean up the area while they look for proof that he is innocent.

They set up a scene where Su-jong seems to be helping a drunk Hee-joo get home so that people don’t think they are up to something. They take the body out of a window and dump it in a redevelopment zone, using blind spots in nearby security cameras.

Hwal-sung also hires people to block the redevelopment project at the same time. Kim-sun and Su-jong also find out that Da-rae knows they were involved in Yi-gyeong’s kidnapping. Kim-sun tries to explain, but Da-rae won’t listen.

Later, Sang-ho sends Su-jong a message telling him to “deal with” Hwal-sung. Hwal-sung tells them when they meet that he owns one of the main buildings, which means that the redevelopment can’t go forward without his permission. Su-jong wants to know if he killed Hee-joo, but Hwal-sung doesn’t seem to know. Su-jong tells Yi-gyeong that she is pregnant in a tense moment.

Dong-chul gives Yi-gyeong the recording, which finally reveals the truth about her kidnapping. She is so angry that she tells him to kidnap Da-rae so that she can feel the same way.

However, Da-rae reaches out first, asking to confess and seek forgiveness. They meet at Yang-ja’s memorial, where Yi-gyeong offers her a choice: abandon her parents and join her as family. Da-rae refuses. In response, Yi-gyeong orders her men to kidnap her.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger. Kim-sun arrives at the memorial, where Da-rae had asked to meet, only to find her missing. In a panic, she calls Su-jong, realizing their daughter has been abducted.

Episode Review

This episode leans heavily into the idea of karma catching up with Kim-sun and Su-jong. However, Yi-gyeong taking matters into her own hands complicates that theme. Her decision to kidnap Da-rae creates a dangerous cycle of retaliation that will likely escalate further.

There is also growing concern for Yi-gyeong’s safety. Her pregnancy adds another layer of vulnerability, and her continued involvement with these dangerous individuals puts both her life and her unborn child at risk.

Hwal-sung remains one of the most frustrating characters. His manipulative behavior and personal agenda continue to disrupt everything around him. His eventual downfall feels inevitable, and it will likely be one of the most satisfying moments of the series.

The mystery surrounding Hee-joo’s death remains unresolved, adding another layer of tension. With only a few episodes left, the story is clearly building toward major revelations and consequences for everyone involved.
