The first chapter of Adventures of Elliot will introduce players to the world, combat mechanics, collectibles and the first dungeon challenge in the game. The first few sections are fairly simple, but there are many secret treasures, manuscripts and upgrades that are easily missed if you rush through the story.
This guide includes everything found in the chapter The Strange Doorway, such as how to get collectibles, optional detours, helpful upgrades, and how to defeat the Greatsword Guardian.# Starting the Journey
Elliot is at a quiet shoreline, and your adventure begins. Head southeast and scour the beach for the Memento Comb, your first important collectible.
As you explore, smash every pot and slash through patches of grass. These objects often drop Tul, the main currency of the game, and also help advance achievement challenges.
Already combat is starting as enemies pop up all around the area. Create a Chain streak by beating opponents without getting hit Since one achievement requires a chain of 30 kills in a row, it’s worth getting efficient at combat right from the beginning.
Walk the beach, then head north on the dirt trail and back to the Kingdom of Huther.
— ## Journey into the Kingdom of Huther
Once you enter town a story sequence plays. Then make your way to Huther Castle but do not go directly to the throne room.## Early Buys Suggested
You can find the Item Shop by the castle entrance. If you have enough Tul: buy
- Boomerang *
- The Empty Bottle
The Boomerang provides Elliot with a decent ranged attack, and Empty Vials let you store healing items and temporary buffs that come in handy during difficult encounters.## Buried Treasure
Next to the water wheel is a small house with a chest containing 30 Tul## Where the Manuscripts Are
There are a few Manuscripts that can be collected before advancing the story.## History of the Kingdom of Huther Book I
Enter the big house to the left of the castle. Check out the bookshelf in the room to the right.### History of the Huther Kingdom Volume III
You can go to Kaifried’s house next to the castle and look at the book shelf upstairs. The History of the Kingdom of Huther Volume II
Inside Huther Castle, head to the west side dining room and check out the bookshelf.### The Diary of a Historian
Go down to the Laboratory Basement near the main staircase and check out the book inside.## Additional Tul Reward
You should visit the nearby watchtower before entering the castle. Climb the ladder and follow the wall walkway to a chest with 50 Tul.
— #Audience with the King
Once you have the usable collectibles, head to the Throne Room.
After the cutscene, Elliot goes near the Orphanage again and obtains the Golden Bell, an important story item.
Before you leave town, go to the Orphanage. Players who have pre-order bonuses will be able to pick them up at the desk. Also, the bookshelf here is a record of every Manuscript you’ve ever found.
— ## Optional Collectibles & Upgrades – West of Huther
Get outta town and back to the beach.
At the end of the area, take the ladder up and open the chest to receive 10 Magicite Fragments.
Nearby is one of the optional challenge shrines in the game.## The Temple Trial
The shrine has you moving between safe zones, dodging arrows flying in.
Completing the challenge awards a Shard of Life. Every four Shards permanently increases Elliot’s maximum health so these challenges are worth doing when you can.
Claim your reward and go north, over the wooden bridge.
— ## Investigating Eddartrayl
Don’t feel the need to rush straight to the main objective once you enter Eddartrayl.
Go south into the desert, and follow the path past the cacti. 55 Tul — on a raised platform, with breakable pots all over.Southern Cave – Desert Exit
First enter the western cave.
Travel through the cave and emerge at the next exit. Here you will find:
- Adventuring Signpost
Chest containing a Shard of Life ### The Desert Caves
Now go into the cave to the east.
Most of the area is not explorable yet, but dropping down the quicksand or taking the stairs leads to a chest with 160 Tul.### Additional Rewards
Keep going towards Western Huracea. Look for:
- Chest 35 Tul
Shard of Life by the lonely tree on the high platform
For now ignore the mysterious white pedestal and head towards the entrance to the dungeon.
Outside the ruins, activate the platform before entering.
— # Guide to the Uncharted Ruins
The Unexplored Ruins are the first actual dungeon in Adventures of Elliot. Most of the puzzles involve moving pedestals onto pressure switches.
Enter the ruins and descend to the lower level.## The First Gate is Opened
Move the movable pedestal south onto the red glowing switch.
This opens the nearby gate and allows access to a chest with 80 Tul.
Go forward, step on the orange floor switch to lower a ladder.## Getting the Blue Key
Descend the ladder and take out the enemies waiting below you.
Open the nearby chest to acquire the Blue Unexplored Ruins Key.
Use the key on the locked door next to the chest.
Place the pedestal on the illuminated switch and return to the upper level.## Getting the Red Key
Head back upstairs and place all available pedestals on their respective switches.
Unlocks the central treasure chest containing the Red Unexplored Ruins Key.
The road opens up, back towards the entrance to the dungeon, and the first boss fight of the chapter.
Make sure to save your game before proceeding.
— # Greatsword Guardian Boss Guide
The Greatsword Guardian is the first major challenge of the game and teaches players the importance of positioning and patience.## Look out for the Red Glow
And when the Guardian lights up red, an attack is coming. Focus on evasion rather than attacking in these moments. ## Love It Back
The Boomerang is great for players who want to hit from a distance and avoid most of the boss hits.## Optimal Damage Window
Your best opportunity will be after the Guardian jumps and slams its sword into the ground.
This attack opens the boss up long enough to get a few hits in and possibly stagger it.## Maintain Consistency
Don’t be greedy Better to go for small but reliable attacks than to try risky combos.
Use healing items when needed and keep your distance until another opening arises.
— ## The Strange Doorway, Part Two
Once the Greatsword Guardian is slain, collect the Magicite Fragments and continue to the next room.
A final cutscene reveals more of the mystery surrounding Elliot’s adventure and unlocks the The Strange Doorway achievement.
After clearing the first dungeon, the story starts to unfold, bringing new areas, tougher enemies and bigger secrets waiting beyond the ruins.
