The pace eases up a little in The Agency Season 2 Episode 3 but for good reason. This episode allows for more character development, while quietly bringing several dangerous story lines to a head. By the end of the hour all the key players are in a more dangerous position.# Vikings in Africa again
Viking returns to the Central African Republic with the money he obtained and gives it to his military unit. The soldiers call him a hero, cementing his position and making him even more untouchable.
Back in London, the agency continues to search for a way to bring him home. The team believes Robyn may be the answer, but getting her to help is a gamble with huge risks. Political tensions and international interests are making the mission more complex.### Samia finds a new enemy
Samia is taken out of prison to a secret apartment in Khartoum where she is interrogated by Emirati intelligence officer Saeed Al-Bukhatir.
Saeed quickly gains the upper hand, showing her evidence of her relationship with Martian. The interrogation becomes a psychological war, and even though she tries to avoid answering his questions, Samia has very few options.
This new conflict introduces another intelligence agency into the fray, and raises the stakes for all concerned.Owen Gains Robyn’s Confidence
Owen once again takes up his assignment with Robyn and gradually gains her trust. She is initially drawn to him out of concern for her brother, but their relationship grows much deeper.
Robyn finally opens up about her childhood memories, and confesses that she has been in secret contact with Viking via a concealed burner phone.
The breakthrough is just what the agency needs. More importantly, it shows Owen growing more confident in his role as an operative.# Danny’s mission fails.
Danny is gaining ground in Iran. He’s closing in on Hassan. She wins his confidence, and is asked to go with a geological expedition financed by the family.
But then the mission suddenly goes south.
Danny doesn’t know it yet, but Iranian intelligence is already tracking her moves. Her apartment is bugged, her equipment compromised, and the IRGC begins to move against her operation.
Danny, Hassan and a number of others are arrested on the way to the destination, before the extraction plans are finished.
The shocking development leaves her isolated in hostile territory with no immediate rescue in sight.# Martian Tries to Hold It Together
Martian tries to separate his personal feelings from his professional duties. He asks Blair to watch over Samia’s situation. He acts as if he’s emotionally detached.
In the meantime, he is enjoying a rare afternoon with his daughter Poppy. The museum visit is one of the best scenes in the episode.
Poppy confronts her father openly, accusing him of creating relationships on a foundation of carefully constructed lies. She employs philosophy and ethics as her argument, forcing Martian to confront the emotional damage he has inflicted with his work.
The conversation shows that Poppy knows a lot more about her father than he does.# Concluding Thoughts
The Agency Season 2 Episode 3 may not have any huge action scenes but it does a good job of increasing the tension in every storyline.
Owen grows into his part, Robyn becomes more significant, Samia faces a perilous new foe, and Danny’s mission reaches a climax. Meanwhile, Martian is torn between his professional obligations and his personal relationships.
The episode is all about trust, manipulation and emotional conflict setting up bigger things in the weeks ahead.## Rating: 4/5
Episode 3 shows The Agency doesn’t need constant action to be compelling. The tension builds slowly, and the character work is strong, making this one of the most important episodes of the season so far.
