Maamla Legal Hai – Season 2 Episode 1 “Without Fear or Favor” Recap & Review

The first episode of Maamla Legal Hai Season 2 starts at the District Court of Patparganj, where VD Tyagi is getting ready to take the oath of office as the new Principal District Judge. Sujata says goodbye to her fellow lawyers as she moves into Tyagi’s chamber at the same time. She asks Ananya to come with her and says she doesn’t like sharing the space with Mintu.

Tyagi stumbles over a word in the oath during the swearing-in ceremony when he sees his father in the audience. Judge Ghosh quickly questions the oath’s validity, which makes people worry that Tyagi might not be able to take the job officially.

Ananya, on the other hand, is working on a strange case involving Mr. Banaspati, who got burns under his arms after using a deodorant. She tells him to sue the company for false advertising and asks his doctor to speak in court. But she soon finds out that Nayana Arora, her long-time rival, is on the other side.

Vishwas introduces Tyagi to his team in another part of the court. This team includes Mr. Dubey, a representative from the High Court, Ms. Maya, a stenographer, and Vipin Topo, a code reader. At the same time, Judge Ghosh won’t accept government-issued iPhones for judges, and he stands by his claim that Tyagi’s oath is invalid and promises to fight his appointment.

Judge Sunil tells Tyagi that Ghosh has a problem with him and stops him from officially taking charge. Sunil suggests that Tyagi take the oath again, but Tyagi refuses and instead asks Judge Bainsla for help. Judge Bainsla refuses to help, saying that Tyagi must solve the problem on his own.

Munshi ji tells everyone in the lawyers’ chamber to make Sujata feel welcome as she joins the group.

As the deodorant case moves forward, Nayana offers Mr. Banaspati Rs 1 lakh to settle and makes hidden threats to Ananya. Ananya talks to Dr. Rizwan, who first agrees that the burns are probably caused by the product. Dr. Rizwan, on the other hand, changes his story during the hearing and says that the injuries were caused by the client’s sensitive skin. The judge agrees to this new testimony, which makes Ananya think something is wrong.

Tyagi, on the other hand, dares the judges to show that his oath was wrong. Tyagi puts pressure on the panel by threatening to take away the government-issued iPhones when Sunil tries to avoid more scrutiny. But Ghosh stands his ground and brings up Tyagi’s father’s legacy, which makes the fight worse.

Sujata and Mintu fight over who gets to name their shared room in another subplot. Mintu says that his name should come first as acting president of the bar association, but Sujata says that her position is more powerful.

Tyagi is still unsure, so he talks to Additional District Judge Kailash Shubhkela, who tells him to put his ego aside and take the oath again.

At the same time, Nayana keeps putting pressure on Ananya and her client, telling them that if they don’t accept the settlement, she will destroy their case. Mr. Banaspati turns down the offer and raises his demand to Rs 25 lakhs, choosing to fight the case.

Tyagi finally agrees to take the oath again in front of the judges and lawyers at the Patparganj District Court at the end of the episode. This time, he makes sure that every word is pronounced correctly.

Review

The start of Season 2 is a great continuation of the story, picking up right where the last season left off. Tyagi’s new role as a judge brings a new dynamic, and the politics in the courtroom surrounding his oath make for an interesting main conflict.

Adding new characters gives the story more depth, especially Nayana Arora, who is a great foil for Ananya. Their rivalry seems planned and well-thought-out, showing how similar their personalities are while also setting up future fights.

At this point, it’s not clear what Kailash Shubhkela’s role will be, but he seems likely to become an ally for Tyagi as the season goes on.

The relationship between Ananya and Vishwas is still one of the best parts of the show. There may be a chance for romance, but their friendship is better for the story right now. At the same time, the tension between Sujata and Mintu hints at a classic enemies-to-lovers story arc, which adds a fun, light touch to the story.

The episode sets up a lot of interesting storylines and lays a solid groundwork for the rest of the season.
