The first episode of Reverse starts with a tense and mysterious scene. A man in dark clothes quietly walks into a house, which sets a scary mood. The scene changes to Myo-jin, who is running in fear a moment later. As she runs to her car and drives away, she keeps saying, “This is crazy, everyone is crazy.” Her clothes and hands are covered in blood.
Another man wakes up because of the noise and finds Hee-su lying on the floor, badly hurt and covered in blood. When he tries to help her, he turns on the electricity, which sets off a hidden trap that causes a huge explosion.
At the same time, Myo-jin, who is already running away, is caught off guard by the blast and gets into a bad car accident. She is taken to the hospital quickly, where doctors have a hard time understanding her mumbling.
When Myo-jin wakes up, she sees Jun-ho next to her bed. He tells her he’s her fiancé, but she doesn’t remember him or even who she is. She has nightmares about a man choking her in a tunnel all the time, and she often passes out.
Jun-ho tells her what happened in the accident and calms her down about her recovery, even though she can’t remember anything. But Myo-jin doesn’t feel any emotional connection to him, which makes things between them tense.
As the story goes on, Jun-ho meets with Myeong-ho to talk about a famous museum building project that was started by the late Chairman Choi. Myeong-ho tells him to take advantage of the chance and show what he can do, but Jun-ho seems uneasy when the chairman’s death comes up. Later, he tells his secretary that he is worried about both the project and Myo-jin’s health.
Myo-jin is still having trouble remembering things a month after the accident. Hyeon-seo, her doctor, says that her memory loss is probably due to severe trauma and that it will take time for her to get better. Even though Jun-ho keeps supporting her, Myo-jin is still distant and unsure.
Her condition gets worse as she has vivid nightmares about being attacked by a man she doesn’t know. The dreams feel too real, which makes her more anxious and confused.
Jun-ho, on the other hand, is trying to win the museum competition so that he can make a name for himself outside of Mono Architectural Company. His drive to succeed is at odds with the instability in his personal life.
Myo-jin is released from the hospital two months after the accident. The doctor tells her to write in a journal every day to help her remember things. Jun-ho greets her at home with a bouquet, which stands for a new beginning, and promises to be there for her.
But going back home doesn’t help her remember much. Small things, like a barbecue where the flames rise, start to bring back memories of the past. She keeps seeing the same faceless man from her nightmares during hypnosis sessions.
Myo-jin starts to think she might have done something wrong, but she can’t remember what it was. Her broken memories point to fear, violence, and always feeling like someone is after her.
A mysterious man, who may be the one from her dreams, shows up somewhere else and seems very worried about her recovery. He is afraid she might come after him now that she is free, which suggests that they have a dangerous history together. He is also shown to be sick and running out of time.
Myo-jin has a hard time adjusting back home. Jun-ho is still paying attention and being helpful, but she knows something is wrong. She goes out for a bike ride to clear her head, but she ends up chasing a boy who tries to rob her. Both of them go to the police station because of what happened.
After being told, Jun-ho runs to her side and insists on pressing charges. But things take a shocking turn when the boy’s mother says that Myo-jin is a murderer. The accusation shakes Myo-jin up, but Jun-ho quickly tells her to ignore it and moves on.
In other parts of the city, similar stories are happening. Ri-ah and Woo-sik come up with a plan to get back at an unfaithful man and his influencer partner after a failed blackmail attempt leads to a bar fight. Their partnership is based on debt and need, which adds another layer of interest to the story.
Later, two detectives go to Myo-jin’s house to ask her about the fire at the villa and what happened before and after the accident. They don’t believe her when she says she has amnesia, so they keep asking her questions. The questioning is too much for Myo-jin, and she gets a bad headache as she tries to remember anything.
Jun-ho steps in and sends the detectives away because he is worried about her health. The investigators leave angry because they don’t have much evidence to work with.
Myo-jin gets more and more upset as the episode goes on. She is scared that she might have done something terrible because of the police questioning and her broken memories. She tells the doctor on her next visit that she is done waiting for her memories to come back, which marks a turning point in her journey.
