Sins of Kujo – Season 1 Episode 8 Recap & Review

In the first scene of Sins of Kujo Episode 8, Mibu tells Kuga that the flowers left behind at a certain place are connected to someone who is still angry about something that happened a long time ago. This early scene sets a darker tone and suggests that past crimes and unresolved revenge will drive the story forward again.
Kyogoku’s vacation and secret reasons
Thanks to Koyama, Kyogoku is shown having a great time at a fancy hotel on a staycation. But his free time is anything but innocent. Kyogoku was behind Tonohata’s castration because he wanted revenge after Tonohata ruined the finances of a top-earning woman named Shizuku for a small settlement of 3 million.
Koyama gets nervous because he thinks Tonohata might tell everyone. Kyogoku coldly asks if he should have killed him instead, and then he threatens Koyama right away for doubting his methods. He quickly moves on to a new plan that involves blackmailing a CEO with Kujo’s help.
A New Case and More Stress
A new case comes up thanks to Mibu. Karasuma is getting more and more angry because he thinks that every case that has to do with Mibu ends up with Kyogoku, which puts Kujo’s life and license in danger.
Kuga is the client, and he was arrested for attacking Tonohata. Kujo tells him to stay quiet because Kuga has a strong alibi that shows he wasn’t even in the same city. Kuga isn’t sure, though, because the main interrogator is Arashiyama, who has a strong personal grudge against him.
The reason for that grudge is a sad past: Arashiyama’s link to Yuo Inukai, who killed his daughter.
The Sad Story of Arashiyama
Later, Karasuma finds out the whole story. Ten years ago, three minors attacked Manami Ogawa, Arashiyama’s daughter. They were sent to juvenile detention. Two of them have been released, but Inukai is still in prison for killing her by drowning.
This tragedy has taken over Arashiyama’s life. Even though Karasuma told Kujo to stay away from Kyogoku and Mibu, Kujo still doesn’t believe there is a threat.
Arashiyama openly criticizes Kujo and other defense lawyers, saying that they are not seeking justice but protecting criminals. In response, Kujo disagrees with Arashiyama’s black-and-white view of the world.
The Search for Manami’s Past
Arashiyama keeps looking into the attack on his daughter, sure that it wasn’t random. He thinks that a bigger group, maybe the Yakuza, is involved.
He gets Manami’s locked phone back and is determined to find out the truth. He finally gets in on the anniversary of her death. He gets in touch with Miho, her friend, who is now a single mother.
Miho tells a painful truth: she and Manami were paid companions and were connected to a man named Koyashan. She also gives out Manami’s other social media account.
Arashiyama learns through these accounts that his daughter had trouble with validation and was dating Koyashan, who took advantage of weak young women. In the end, Manami planned to tell everyone about him, and she even told her father, but he never got the message in time.
Arashiyama feels guilty and sad because he realizes how little he really knew about his daughter.
Kyogoku’s manipulation goes on.
At the same time, Kyogoku tries to get Kujo to join him more directly by offering him a free apartment and a job as a retainer. Kujo says no, but Kyogoku is sure he will be able to control him in the end.
At the same time, Karasuma tells Mibu to stop talking to Kujo because he is afraid that Kujo will get more involved in Kyogoku’s dangerous network. Mibu, on the other hand, says that even criminals deserve legal protection and tells Karasuma to replace Kujo if he is so worried.
Before he leaves, Karasuma secretly puts a bugged pen in Mibu’s garage.
New Information and Increasing Dangers
Later, Miho comes to the police station and says that Manami was her only real friend and that she wants to help find out the truth. She says that Koyashan, the man who was with Manami, was really Koyama.
She says he went after girls who were emotionally weak and used relationships and money to trap them into being exploited.
Arashiyama is heartbroken after hearing this news.
Case Closed and a New Threat
Kujo is able to get Kuga out of jail. Later, Kuga and Mibu meet and talk about Inukai’s upcoming release. Karasuma’s hidden recording device picks up the conversation without them knowing.
Kujo, on the other hand, is working on a new case involving a woman who wants to leave her husband. Karasuma watches Kujo closely, even showing a rare soft side when Kujo falls asleep at his desk.
But the calm doesn’t last long. Kyogoku comes back with urgent news: Koyama has been arrested, and Kujo must now defend him.

Review of the Episode
As the season comes to a close, Episode 8 shows off one of the best parts of the show: how it focuses on victims and the emotional effects of the legal battles. The Manami story is especially powerful because it uses Arashiyama’s grief to make the case more emotional.
But the episode makes an unusual choice in its structure by putting more emphasis on a supporting character than on Kujo or Karasuma. This makes things more interesting, but it also makes the main story a little less clear.
Karasuma’s worry about Kujo keeps growing, but it seems a little rushed. His strong personal interest in Kujo’s safety makes people wonder, especially since they haven’t known each other for very long and there was some professional tension at first.
Even so, Episode 8 does a good job of building up to a more connected and morally complicated ending, raising the stakes for Kujo, Karasuma, and everyone else who is affected by Kyogoku’s influence.
