The fifth episode starts with news stories going viral about abuse at a nursing home. Yamashiro thinks about leaving the situation, but Sugawara tells him that things are much more complicated. A leaked video already shows an orderly beating Iemori while pretending to be “practice.” Another video shows both Sugawara and Yamashiro present while Iemori is forced to rewrite his will over and over again. If that video gets out, their lives and careers will be over.
The Mole Was Found
Kuga says he isn’t the informant, but Sugawara doesn’t believe him and beats him up so badly that he has to go to the hospital. After Kuga is alone, he texts Mibu to let her know they are safe, which shows that he was the mole all along.
Kujo’s Plan and the Pressure from the Media
After Kujo’s plan, Karasuma gets in touch with reporter Ichida Tomoko, who puts pressure on Yamashiro to make a statement. Yamashiro agrees to give back the whole estate as the media’s attention grows. But Kujo goes even further, telling him to give up his license and leave the field.
Yamashiro’s Breaking Point
Yamashiro finally gives in, even though he’s angry. While drinking, he lets his guard down and talks about how the legal system protects the rich but fails everyone else. Kujo responds by saying that he treats all clients the same, no matter who they are. Yamashiro tells Kujo not to become like the people he fights against before passing out.
The Secret Plan of Mibu
In the meantime, Mibu makes things worse by reporting a bar fight, which makes Sugawara angry. Mibu gives in too easily when confronted, which makes people suspicious. Later, he tells Kuga that he only worked with Sugawara to steal his connections and grow his own power. It is also known that the video that could get someone in trouble was found on a broken phone whose data was still there.
The Iemori Family Split
The Iemori family gets their father’s estate back, but they are still hurt. Hanae’s younger brother Keisuke wants a part of the money, and she agrees, even though she doesn’t want to. Their talk shows that Hanae still feels guilty. She thinks her father died thinking she hated him, but she had always been worried about him.
Kujo gives Hanae comfort.
Kujo goes to see Hanae after hearing that she doesn’t care about money. He knows that she feels bad about what she did and tells her that her father probably understood how she felt. Hanae admits that she used to stay up late at night because she was afraid he wouldn’t come home. From a distance, Karasuma watches as Kujo comforts her quietly.
Karasuma Looks Back at His Past
Karasuma goes to see his mother because he is upset about living with shame. Even though she is hesitant, she agrees to try to move on for his sake, which could mean that their relationship will get stronger.
A New Case: The Yakuza Boss Kyogoku
Kyogoku, a powerful Yakuza boss, is arrested after his bodyguards attack a man named Sakuma. This starts a new case in the episode. Sakuma says he didn’t mean to steal, but Kyogoku is still responsible because of his position.
Kyogoku tries to control Kujo and Karasuma during their meeting, but Kujo won’t put up with it and leaves, telling him to get a different lawyer. Instead, Kyogoku goes to Mibu, who scares Sakuma into dropping the complaint.
Kujo’s Legal Knowledge
Kujo goes on to say that getting Mibu involved would only make things more difficult. Sakuma started the fight, so the attack was self-defense, according to CCTV footage. Kyogoku then thinks that there is a bigger plan against him, maybe with Mibu involved.
Mibu’s Bad History
A flashback shows how mean Kyogoku was. After catching Mibu stealing, he makes him choose between his own life and the life of his family’s dog. In the end, Mibu kills the dog, which leaves him with deep scars. This moment shows what he wants, especially his desire for revenge.
The Last Scene: A New Start
At the end of the episode, Kujo meets a young girl who has scars all over her body from hurting herself. He gives her his card, which means that another case has begun.
Review of the Episode
The first half of the episode is slow and boring, especially since there are so many plot threads that need to be tied up. Several scenes make the same points over and over, which slows down the pace. It also seems like Yamashiro’s decision to quit isn’t fully thought out because it goes against what he wanted to do before.
But the episode picks up speed again when Kyogoku shows up. The case itself is resolved quickly, but it sets up a bigger fight between Kujo and Mibu. Mibu’s backstory makes him more interesting and gives him more emotional depth, making him one of the more interesting characters going forward.
