Lois leaves the hospital with a broken leg at the beginning of the season finale of Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. Hal, on the other hand, is still feeling the effects of the drugs he took. Francis helps Kelly get ready for the anniversary party and tells them that Reese won’t cause any problems.
Will Malcolm be able to go to the anniversary party?
Malcolm finally makes it to the anniversary party, where he sees his childhood friends Dabney, Kevin, and Lloyd again. They tell him about their son Hubert, which makes Malcolm wonder what kind of relationship they have that is so different from others.
Malcolm also introduces Stevie and his family to Tristan and Leah at the party. Stevie is stuck in the middle of a fight between his very competitive parents, Abe and Kitty. Kelly is still worried that Reese might make a scene, though.
In another part of the story, Francis meets up with his old military school friends Eric, Ken, and Drew, who are already drunk. Hal hangs out with his a cappella group, and Leah’s text conversation with Jason takes a turn for the worse when he asks for an inappropriate photo, which makes her feel uncomfortable.
Piama also meets Gretchen, who is now a traveling cow doula. Gretchen quickly sees that Piama is pregnant and offers to find out what the baby is.
What happens between Malcolm and his brothers and sisters?
Malcolm finally talks to his siblings, who are angry with him for keeping secrets from them for so long. Dewey joins the party by video call from Europe, and Jamie says he left his military base without telling his bosses.
Malcolm hides in the bathroom to avoid a fight, but Lois eventually finds him. She asks him why he didn’t tell Leah about Leah. Malcolm says he was afraid of letting his parents down. He talks about how they used to have unrealistic hopes for him, like that he would become President of the United States.
Lois tells him that those expectations were wrong and that they put a lot of pressure on him. She tells Leah how proud she is of her and that she likes Tristan.
What does Hal tell Reese?
Reese, who has been hiding nearby, hears the talk. When he goes outside, he runs into Hal, who confronts him in front of the others. Reese tries to get people to feel sorry for him, but Hal calls him out for being manipulative and tells all of his kids how disappointed he is in them for being self-destructive.
What does Lois do to surprise Hal?
Lois talks to the guests and tells them how Hal has given his life to her. To thank her, she gives her a video montage of friends and family talking about Hal in a heartfelt way.
Kelly talks about how Hal helped them figure out who they were, and that is one of the most touching parts. Because Malcolm isn’t in the video, he goes on stage to talk about how he feels about Hal in person.
Does Malcolm’s proposal go through with Tristan?
Malcolm realizes he loves Tristan and asks him to marry him. Tristan, on the other hand, says no, saying that they have just learned important things about their lives and need time to think about them before they can think about getting married.
In the meantime, Hubert makes friends with Leah and then asks Kelly to join them. Leah talks about how uncomfortable she was when she talked to Jason and how her new friends helped her.
What happens at the end of the finale?
Francis tries to turn on a glitter shower that Hal had planned while Hal and Lois dance on stage. The attempt fails, and Francis spills glitter all over the place, covering the guests and making a mess.
Afterward, the family sits together, and Hal realizes that he has lost the event’s security deposit. Leah looks into the camera one last time and tells everyone that she plans to send a screenshot of Jason’s messages to his parents and school.
At the end of the episode, Malcolm and Leah both hope they can get used to being part of the family again.
Review of the episode
The last episode has a mix of funny moments, emotional closure, and hints at possible future stories. Finn Wolfhard makes a surprise appearance as an awkward party planner who is scared of Lois. This adds an extra level of charm.
The episode does a good job of making Leah the main character going forward, which makes it seem like a spin-off could happen. It also hints at future storylines where the siblings become adults and start their own lives, especially Dewey, Reese, and Jamie.
Leah’s growing relationship with Hubert and Kelly adds an interesting twist. If the series goes on, Kelly’s search for her identity and Hubert’s strange past could become a major plot point.
