Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Episode 6 Two weeks before the current timeline, Season 2 starts on Skull Island. The huge Titan sees Kentaro sketching Kong and roars at him, making him run away.
Hiroshi goes to Kentaro’s base and looks over his drawings before telling him something shocking. He once found a hole in Alaska and stepped through it. When he came out, he was in Africa, but he realized that a whole year had gone by. He didn’t tell Kentaro about this so that Kentaro wouldn’t try to make the same risky trip. Hiroshi feels like he has gotten back that lost year now that they have spent time together.
Today, the group is sad about Hiroshi’s death. Dr. Suzuki comes in and is clearly shocked by how much older Shaw is. After meeting the others, Suzuki asks them to come along with him.
Suzuki says that night that he was blacklisted after the Godzilla incident on the island. But he says he knows what went wrong with the time dilation. Shaw suggests using Suzuki’s knowledge to call Godzilla and have him destroy Titan X.
The scene then moves to Monarch HQ in Virginia in 1958. Six years have passed since Shaw first met Keiko and Billy, and they are no longer working together. Shaw is moving to Maryland for a big promotion, and she thinks it’s the best thing for everyone.
Shaw meets Colonel Leland, his father, in Maryland. They talk about Shaw’s complicated relationship with Keiko and how he got out of the way. Shaw arrives late on his first day after drinking a lot the night before. His father takes him out for coffee and tells him that he has set up for Shaw to be sent to MAAG Vietnam.
Colonel Leland thinks this is the best way for Shaw to move up in his career, but Shaw starts to wonder if this is really what he wants to do. Faced with this possible future, he decides to go back and work with Keiko and Billy, promising to put his own feelings aside.
In the present, Corah goes to see Kentaro and says she’s sorry for not being at the funeral. They go to Sota’s bar, which has been remodeled since the new owners took over. Things get weird when Kentaro tries to kiss her. Corah says she’s sorry and gently turns him down, making it clear that her heart is with Cate, not him. Isabel comes up to Kentaro later and says she’s Walter Simmons’ daughter. She says she wants to show him that she’s not like her father.
At the same time, Cate talks to Keiko, who sees Cate get a Titan signal for the first time. When they get to Suzuki’s place, Shaw tells him that he plans to send Godzilla through Axis Mundi to kill Titan X.
Cate and Keiko are not sure about this plan because they think it is similar to Apex’s attempts to control Titans. But Shaw says it’s the only way to go, which is similar to how his father thought years ago.
Keiko sends Cate underwater with a scanner to study Titan X to see how well they are connected. While submerged, Cate hears the Titan’s voice. When Keiko looks at the sounds, they realize that Titan X might not be a dangerous creature, but rather a scared and confused one that is lost and out of place in time.
Shaw and Suzuki go ahead with their plan to open the rift without knowing about this new information. They get a signal, and it turns out to be Colonel Leland.
Review of the episode
This week’s episode is slower and more thoughtful, with the characters feeling the emotional weight of Hiroshi’s death. Kentaro starts to see the link between Cate and Corah, but Isabel’s sudden appearance adds a new level of uncertainty. We don’t know if she will help Kentaro or make things harder for him.
Keiko’s growing understanding of Titan X could be very important in how the conflict plays out. The series seems to be going in the direction of a misunderstood Titan, which makes the fight with Godzilla more complicated.
The earlier tease of a fight between Godzilla and Titan X in Tokyo seems a little off, but future episodes should keep that promise, especially since there are hints of a bigger battle to come.
For now, the episode focuses on developing the characters instead of action, which sets the stage for what we hope will be a more exciting stretch in the next episodes.
