Phantom Lawyer – K-Drama Episode 8 Recap & Review

In the beginning of Episode 8 of Phantom Lawyer, Na-hyun’s mother remembers the times when Na-hyun and So-hyun would fight in their shared room. Now that room is empty, a quiet reminder of loss.

In another place, I-rang wakes up to see So-hyun’s ghost looking at the stars through the window of his office. A few moments later, she sees three students bullying another one and can’t just stand by, so she takes over I-rang to stop them. She fights back against the attackers, but things quickly get out of hand, and I-rang ends up in jail when he gets his body back under control.

So-hyun stays in the cell with I-rang for a long time without knowing that she is a ghost. She feels both angry that she died so young and relieved and proud when she remembers that she gave up her life to save Na-hyun.

So-hyun is thinking about her sister when Bong-soo tells her that I-rang has been arrested. She wants to see Na-hyun right away. But she doesn’t understand why Na-hyun has changed into a cold, emotionally distant lawyer.

Na-hyun won’t listen to I-rang’s explanation during a meeting and tells him to accept a settlement. So-hyun, angry, takes over I-rang again and goes straight to Na-hyun, calling her out on her cold and rigid behavior. Na-hyun, who was angry, splashed water on him, which broke the possession.

So-hyun is interested in her sister’s life, so she follows Na-hyun and sees how much she has changed. She doesn’t listen to music anymore and doesn’t answer their father’s calls. So-hyun sees how hard things are for her family at home. They used to be close and happy, but now they are careful what they say around Na-hyun and are even thinking about selling their house.

Do-gyeong, on the other hand, is working on the case for the boys who got into a fight. He knows that they have been picking on Jun-ho for more than a year. Even so, the boys are able to trick Jun-ho into backing up their false story that I-rang attacked them for no reason. Their parents are important people: Min-jae’s father is a high-ranking government official and Ji-hyeok’s mother is a law professor.

So-hyun starts to feel bad about putting I-rang in such a tough spot and tells him about her family. I-rang says that grief often tears families apart because it spreads and affects everyone in different ways. He knows this from his own experience of losing his father. He tells her that she might be the one to help bring her family back together and promises to help her.

Back to the case, I-rang thinks there is more to Jun-ho’s actions. He tells So-hyun to look into it, and Na-hyun looks for Jun-ho but can’t find him.

So-hyun hears Min-jae tell Jun-ho on the phone to meet him at a cybercafé with money. Jun-ho is angry and scared, so he plans to bring a knife for protection. In the meantime, Na-hyun meets with Jun-mother ho’s.

So-hyun stops Jun-ho on the way to the meeting, this time using I-rang’s body. She remembers a similar case in which a victim was punished for fighting back and persuades him not to do the same. He finally gives up the knife.

The truth comes out: Jun-ho has been threatened. The bullies made him strip and filmed it, then used the video to control and humiliate him. Because the authorities aren’t doing anything, the group decides to get the video themselves before the meeting.

They plan a secret mission at the cybercafé. I-rang pretends to be an electrician, and Na-hyun and Bong-soo go inside. When Seo-won gets there, they try to get into his phone by making a scene. But they find out that the video isn’t on his phone. Do-gyeong told them to switch phones, but Min-jae still has the original.

Seo-won gets suspicious and tells Min-jae, who runs away, ruining their plan. I-rang and So-hyun chase after him, and Na-hyun goes to Taebaek Law Firm to buy Do-gyeong some time.

Do-gyeong puts pressure on I-rang’s mother at the firm to accept a big settlement. Na-hyun shows up just as she is about to sign and stops things.

In the meantime, Min-jae runs into Jun-ho in an alley. Jun-ho wants the video taken down and tries to fight back, but he is too weak. He still gets the phone, though. As tensions rise, So-hyun shows up, and I-rang stops Jun-ho from making a bad choice.

When they get back to the office, Na-hyun tells them that the boys have been arrested for things like assault and filming without permission. The case goes her way. Do-gyeong tells her that she is becoming like him, willing to do anything to win, and that I-rang is having an effect on her. He also hints that I-rang can talk to ghosts, but Na-hyun doesn’t believe him.

Na-hyun starts to notice something strange about her sister’s behavior in I-rang later on. She goes back to her old diary, which she used to share with So-hyun, and puts the pieces together. She takes I-rang to the amusement park, which is So-hyun’s favorite place, to make sure her suspicions are correct.

At the end, So-hyun takes I-rang and runs up to Na-hyun with excitement. Na-hyun runs to him and hugs him, crying because she believes her sister is really there.
