Flunked – Season 1 Episode 3 “Landed” Recap & Review

In Episode 3 of Flunked, students and staff head to Normandy. Eddy, through the voiceover of Lucie, recalls the five possible candidates who could be Sagirov’s child: Sandra, Louise, Oceane, Kylian and Tiphaine’s son Kylian.
It’s a simple but pressing mission – collect the DNA samples from all 5 in 24 hours and compare to Sagirov’s. Eddy tries a clever trick, giving them water in the hope of getting saliva from used glasses. But Florian throws a wrench into his plan when he criticizes the use of plastic and takes the cups away.
Memories, resurgent tension
When they arrive Tiphaine organises the group while Eddy remembers a previous school trip to Étretat. They had a private code back then, a sock on the door to call a meeting at the beach. The memory also adds an emotional layer, hinting at some unresolved tension between the two.
Florian confirms attendance, and walks to help Benjamin, the only disabled student in the class. Eddy tries to get some information about Florian from Tiphaine but she is evasive in her reply, leaving him wanting more.
Cemetery Mayhem and Failed Attempts
Eddy meets Lucie and her husband and their children at the military cemetery. Their brief exchange underscores the urgency of his mission.
Next he targets Sandra, convincing her to place a stone on a grave, claiming it to be that of his grandfather. Eddy manipulates the arrival of actual relatives for money, showing his morally dubious tactics.
Later, Eddy tries to get Oceane’s hair with war veteran Raymond Gardoux, but gets caught in the act. Everything goes downhill when he is asked to give a speech. Eddy tries to salvage his plan by calling for a toast with the five targets so he can collect their glasses, but the host takes the glasses away before he can make his move. He accidentally transmits his frustration over the microphone.
Desperation makes for risky moves
Eddy turns his attention to Louise at dinner but Tiphaine interrupts to challenge his lie. He makes a grab for Louise’s fork but a waitress clears the table.
Eddy spots an opening; he urges Kylian to steal a romantic moment with Mina upstairs. Later he tries to retrieve the evidence but is intercepted by Raymond and has to invent another elaborate lie about his supposed family history.
Eddy eventually manages to collect usable samples from discarded protection gear. He comes to give them to Lucie, but he has an awkward encounter when Tiphaine bumps into them and Lucie’s husband appears.
Results of Emotional Manipulation
That night, Eddy notices a sock on Tiphaine’s door and takes it as a sign. On the way to the beach he finds a distraught Oceane, comforts her and takes the opportunity to acquire a tissue sample.
On the beach Eddy meets students, among them Theo, who is smoking, which allows Lucie to collect his DNA. But the bigger shock comes when Eddy learns that Tiphaine and Florian are having a secret affair.
A Dangerous State of Affairs
The next morning Eddy digs through Tiphaine’s trash to find Theo’s DNA but is caught. He changes suspicion by stating concern for Theo’s behaviour. Their talk briefly turns philosophical, but is interrupted by an emergency.
Theo landed on a landmine on the beach. If he moves it may kill him. In a strange and very questionable decision, Eddy proposes to exchange Theo with Benjamin who he says is a safer bet as he is in a wheelchair.
The suggestion shocks everyone and shows Eddy’s increasingly reckless judgment.
Fallout and the Truth Revealed
As the group prepares to leave, it is discovered that the landmine was not active. Benjamin returns to the group without any immediate danger.
Lucie then takes the last samples but her own life starts to unravel. Eddy is, in fact, her lover, but she lies when her husband asks her about her relationship with him. This only increases the tension in her marriage.
Back at the school Lucie tells Eddy that none of the DNA samples match Sagirov. As if this wasn’t enough, Eddy is greeted by protesting students angry at his actions, and especially at the way he has treated Benjamin.
Episode Discussion
This episode is special because of its mad energy and unexpected twists. Much of the story is driven by Eddy’s increasingly desperate and unconventional methods of collecting DNA, which often teeter between clever and unethical.
The landmine incident adds a surprising layer of tension, but it’s Eddy’s suggestion concerning Benjamin that is particularly disturbing. It demonstrates a lack of sensitivity and raises serious questions about his judgment.
All in all, “Landed” provides a blend of dark humor and escalating consequences that propel the plot and Eddy’s character into more complex – and controversial – waters.
