Back in the office, Ki-jun is told by a coffee shop employee that the earlier incident was real, and that he has earned himself a new nickname for passing out in the midst of the chaos. His colleagues are always looking at him and even the Vice President’s secretary Jeon Jae-yeol is checking his condition.
Ki-jun’s frustration grows when he finds out how In-a dealt with a recent case. Mi-young was demoted to a subsidiary and Myung-soo kept his position and project. Myung-soo is more accountable, says Ki-jun, because of his own personal misdeeds, but In-a disagrees.
In-a explains her corporate logic clearly: “Myung-soo is still valuable because of his performance and his role in a profitable brand, while Mi-young’s contributions are perceived as weaker from a business perspective. She tells Ki-jun that companies don’t care about moral judgment. They care about profit and loss.
Investigation of parking lot Zone F
Ki-jun’s next assignment is to check out Zone F in the company parking lot, on the fourth floor. There is no CCTV coverage so it has become a clandestine meeting place for staff.
Gwang-il orders the team to gather information through their own internal human intelligence network, including chatting to security guards and cleaners.
The Company’s Secret Connections
The episode introduces Ms. Yeon and Mr. Kwon, a married couple working at Haemu Group, but they pretend not to know each other at the office to keep their relationship hidden. Their attempts to reach out are met with suspicion from colleagues.
Ms Yeon tells her husband that she is going out for drinks with friends, including Jun-seo, with whom she seems to be developing a closer connection. Meanwhile, the tension at work rises when Ms. Seon accidentally falls into Mr. Kwon’s lap creating a silent but evident mutual tension between the two.
Ki-jun’s Past Comes Back
On a personal note, Ki-jun is stunned when his ex-partner A-jeong shows up at his apartment unexpectedly on her birthday. Two years ago she had ghosted him. Now she was back in his life, unannounced, asking if she could stay with him for a little while.
Ki-jun complains about being assigned to team three while drinking. A-jeong tells him he’s the right person for the job, the same thing In-a said when she transferred him.
Things become more complicated when Ki-jun begins to suspect that In-a may have seen him in an awkward position with Ji-hye.
The Changing of the Guard in Power and the Hope for Promotion
A-jeong later tells Ki-jun that Director Kim of Strategic Planning is setting up a new department called the General Business Control HQ and has asked specifically for Ki-jun to join.
Ki-jun is elated with this news because it could be a way out of Team Three and the investigations.
Zone F Incident Gets Worse
Meanwhile, Jun-seo makes a pass at Ms Yeon and the pair almost kiss. Meanwhile Ms Yeon’s husband is working late with Ms Seon. The tension between them culminates in a secret meeting in Zone F, where they cross professional boundaries in a car.
The next morning, Ki-jun arrives at work very excited, because he has learned that the president is in favor of the new department.
However, upon learning that the couple involved in the Zone F incident is connected to the case they are investigating, his mood changes.
The Stakeout’s Twist
Ki-jun has no partner and asks In-a to go on a stakeout with him. The operation initially seems successful as they catch employees in the act of misconduct.
But then, to their shock, they discover the person involved is none other than Director Kim.
Director Kim will be in serious trouble, unlike the previous cases, he may even get his contract terminated. In-a says.
Jeon Jae-yeol’s hate toward Director Kim for his poor performance and use of personal connections in the company is also revealed.
Ki-jun’s chances of being transferred out of Team Three plummet.
Family support and company plans
That night Ki-jun comes home where his mother and older sisters notice his emotional condition. They get defensive right away, and even suggest some legal action against anyone that has hurt him.
Meanwhile, In-a goes through Ki-jun’s files on Haemu Pharmaceuticals deciding whether to keep or delete.
Meanwhile, Jae-yeol reports Director Kim incident to his father who is disappointed that the case was not handled strategically. He criticizes Jae-yeol and his younger brother Sung-yeol, questioning whether the latter is capable of taking over the company.
Later Sung-yeol comes back from his exile with a large international energy project worth billions, and demands he be brought back into the company.
Team 3 internal discord
At a team dinner to welcome In-a, Ki-jun directly confronts her, blaming her for the decisions that have led to his current situation. His outburst is a sign of his increasing confusion and frustration at her motivations.
The next day, Ki-jun is embarassed and considers quitting. Things get worse when he learns that In-a knows he talked behind her back and might be transferred.
Ki-jun is on the verge of losing it when he receives an anonymous tip accusing In-a of workplace shenanigans.
End of Episode and Final Scene
The episode ends with In-a meeting a mysterious man in secret. The man is wearing a wedding ring and that brings up some serious questions about her personal life and secret relationships.
Review of the episode
Episode 2 deals with the complex relationship between Ki-jun and In-a. Their relationship is marked by swings between conflict, dependency and professional tension. Ki-jun grows to dislike In-a, yet he still depends on her advice as they continue their investigations.
