Yumi’s Cells Season 3 Episode 7 opens with Soon-rok showing up at Yumi’s door unexpectedly. He admits he doesn’t know why he came, but finally confesses that he thinks he likes her. Yumi is taken by surprise and before she can respond, she is interrupted, and the conversation is brought to an abrupt halt. Yumi tells Soon-rok to get back to work, but neither of them has finished their business.
In Soon-rok’s cell village, his Love Cell confesses that his feelings for Yumi are real. His Reason Cell is asking why he tried to put distance if he already knew what he felt. Love Cell is determined to make things right and goes to Yumi’s village but is judged by Yumi’s cells. They blame him for messing her up by saying not to cross boundaries and then doing it himself. The verdict is harsh and Soon-rok’s Love Cell is, for the moment, relegated to the shadows.
In reality, Yumi messages Soon-rok, calling his confession immature and saying she will pretend it never happened. The next morning Yumi looks calm, but Soon-rok looks visibly exhausted. He is depressed but still makes the effort to apologize to Jenny. Jenny reveals her ex contacted her and they might get back together, surprisingly.
Yumi’s Emotion Cell is pushing for her to contact Soon-rok, but the other cells believe Yumi has already made her feelings known. You attempt to trigger Heart Fever Time, but it fails. Reason Cell informs you that the effect doesn’t work the same anymore in one’s mid-thirties.
But soon-rok is struck by Heart Fever Time in full force. He’s upset and goes to Yumi’s apartment but she’s not there. When his energy starts to wane, a text from Jenny recharges his batteries.
Soon-rok finally finds Yumi at her studio and confesses again. He is expecting to be turned down, but Yumi merely inquires if he has had lunch. They spend more time together and Yumi finally confesses that she likes him too. At that same time, Soon-rok’s Love Cell is welcomed back into Yumi’s village, the start of their relationship.
As they make lunch together, they can’t help but notice the chemistry between them. Soon-rok drops the formal speech and calls her “noona” telling her to talk more casually. Yumi visibly blushes and then the mood quickly becomes playful. Soon-rok even sets up comedic dating rules, like no public displays of affection around work.
Their relationship progresses almost immediately, when Soon-rok asks if she is okay with kissing on the first day and then kisses her without hesitation.
A few days later, the couple starts to navigate workplace dating. Soon-rok keeps things professional at work but Yumi can’t resist teasing him. Yumi begins to think that maybe things are moving too fast, when he asks her to dinner.
Yumi finds a softer, more playful side of Soon-rok at his house. She says she was charmed by him and compared him to Superman. Yumi’s parents interrupt their romantic evening by calling and arriving at her house.
After her parents leave, Yumi calls Soon-rok back over later that night. Soon-rok kisses her again, making the reunion more intimate and taking their relationship to an even deeper level.
Episode Review
Episode 7 brings us some of the sweetest and most exciting romantic moments of the season. Heart Fever Time’s return is a nostalgic treat and the chemistry between Yumi and Soon-rok feels real, playful, and emotionally satisfying.
But the biggest problem with this is the pacing. The episode has confession, mutual feelings, first kiss, office romance and intimacy all rolled into one episode. While each moment is beautifully executed, the speed gives the relationship a rushed rather than naturally developed feeling.
Soon-rok’s change of personality is also rather sudden, and some of his actions feel surprising rather than organic. Yet the emotional charm, humor and good performances make it an entertaining episode.
Overall Episode 7 is romantic, fun and full of memorable moments, but the breakneck pacing stops it from reaching the emotional depth fans might have been hoping for.
