When it premiered on Netflix in 2021, The Chestnut Man made quite an impression, quickly earning praise for its dark storytelling, layered characters, and gripping mystery. The series came back with Season 2 in May 2026 after a long wait, with another strong chapter full of secrets, betrayal, grief and shocking twists.
The second season, consisting of six episodes, saw the return of many familiar faces, and introduced new cast members including Danica Curcic, Mikkel Boe Folsgaard, Sofie Grabol, Katinka Laerke Petersen, Liva Forsberg, Anders Hove and Ozlem Saglanmak.
And now many fans are asking if a third round is in the works after the tense end of the series that was filled with big reveals.

What is the story of season 2?
“Season 2 — The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek — takes place two and a half years after the first season. It reveals Mark Hess and Naia Thulin had a brief romantic fling after working together, only for their relationship to be cut short when Mark suddenly disappeared.
Two years later, Mark is back in Copenhagen with a new murder investigation linked to an old cold case.
The case starts with the unexplained death of teen student Emma Holst. Marie’s mother becomes determined to find the truth and get justice. Meanwhile, newly divorced, Zara Solak vanishes without a trace.
The investigators soon discover a disturbing link between the victims. Both had been receiving cryptic text messages with countdown rhymes, suggesting that the killer is playing a twisted game of hide and seek. When the countdown hits zero, the victims die.
Mark and Naia are assigned to the task force and have to put their complicated past behind them as they race to stop the killer before it’s too late.
The Chestnut Man Season 3: Renewed Or Canceled?
Netflix has yet to announce the renewal of The Chestnut Man for Season 3.
Typically, the streaming platform considers a variety of factors before renewing, including viewership, retention and general critical reception. Some series are quickly renewed, others take months or years to have their fates sealed.
It’s not guaranteed that Nordic crime shows will receive multiple seasons but if Season 2 is as good as the first, there’s a real chance the series could be back.
What may happen in season 3?
As the series hasn’t been officially renewed yet, there are no plot details for Season 3 at this moment.
The first two seasons are adaptations of novels by Soren Sveistrup. And if Sveistrup chooses to take the story further in another novel, a third season could potentially adapt that material.
Should the show return, it’s likely to be for another six-episode season, each lasting around 45 minutes.
What We Think
There’s nothing official but The Chestnut Man looks pretty likely to get a Season 3 — particularly if Season 2 is a big success with critics and audiences alike.
