The Scarecrow follows Kang Tae-ju, a brilliant criminal profiler, who is drawn back to a case he believed closed. But when new DNA evidence links a convicted serial killer to a string of unsolved murders, Tae-ju is forced to re-open an investigation that tests everything he thought he knew. But the suspect says he is innocent and insists that Tae-ju must find the truth.
Tae-ju comes back to his hometown and re-investigates the notorious “Scarecrow” murder case from a few years ago. The journey forces him to confront the unresolved trauma, the buried memories, the unanswered questions of his past. Alongside him in the investigation is prosecutor Cha Si-yeong, who is a former rival of his, with her own political ambitions and a complex history with him.
As the mystery deepens, the case becomes more complex, revealing subtle links and deeper levels to the crimes.
