Rorn Rookie Episode 4: The fight for Choiseong escalates as Kang Yong-ho, still trapped in Jun-hyeon’s body, starts to take daring steps against the twins who have taken over his company. His identity may be unknown, but his power is growing, creating fissures in the carefully constructed edifice of family power.
The episode opens with Bang-geul still struggling to accept the unbelievable truth that Yong-ho’s soul is living in someone else’s body. Still wary, Yong-ho proposes an alliance, promising to assist in the recovery of Choiseong as his father had intended. She doesn’t trust blindly, and he respects the wariness.
Meanwhile, the Choiseong leadership grows tense. As accusations and suspicions start to spread in the company, Byung-mo and Eun-se find out that Director Song Nam-hoon has been manipulating them. Song’s disappearance makes an already volatile situation even more so.
Back at work, the materials team had a nice surprise when they received some praise after their recent run-in with sales. Employees are frustrated, so Managing Director Kwon Beom-sik throws a company dinner to celebrate their performance. A clumsy meeting rapidly escalates into a memorable showdown when Yong-ho challenges Kwon’s reputation as the company’s strongest drinker.
The contest turns into one of the episode’s funniest moments. Remembering his days as chairman, Yong-ho confidently takes on the challenge and humiliates Kwon in front of the whole team. He wins . He gains respect . The dreaded drinking culture at the company ends , at least for a while .
Yong-ho’s greatest success, however, comes after when he manipulates Bong-ki into becoming an ally. He spins an elaborate story, saying he is the secret son of Kang Yong-ho, and gains Bong-ki’s complete trust. The lie pays off, giving Yong-ho valuable information and assistance in his growing campaign against the twins.
Meanwhile, a corporate war between Jae-seong and Jae-gyeong is starting to emerge. The siblings are still at each other’s throats for influence and ownership of Choiseong. Jae-gyeong talks about investment plans for battery technology and foreign partnerships while Jae-seong is involved in a massive port development project linked to his father-in-law’s business interests.
Seizing an opportunity, Yong-ho investigates Bang-geul’s abandoned Gangwon Port scheme closely. Impressed by its potential, he decides to use it as a weapon in the current rivalry. He offers the project to Jae-gyeong as a competitor that can outdo Jae-seong’s Yuncheon Port project.
Things get out of hand quickly. Encouraging results from meetings with regional officials and support for the Gangwon project begins to build. Meanwhile, Yong-ho secretly plans another move targeting the mayor of Yuncheon. Bong-ki’s surveillance work uncovers evidence that is used as behind-the-scenes leverage to push the mayor to resign.
The results are immediate. Suddenly Jae-seong is losing political support while Jae-gyeong’s proposal is gaining approval. When the board finally approves her project, he erupts into the meeting in a rage, accusing his sister of stealing his plans. The scene demonstrates how successful Yong-ho has been in turning the twins against one another.
The emotional core of the episode is not the corporate battlefield but Yong-ho’s family. He has one of the most touching scenes when he unexpectedly bumps into his wife Seon-hee. He can only watch from a distance as she makes her apologies for past misunderstandings, unable to reveal his true identity. The encounter visibly rattles him, and reminds him of what he’s really lost.
Bang-geul also remains responsible for her mother’s care while managing the demands of the extended family. Opting for takeout rather than cooking a huge breakfast is a small but meaningful act of rebellion that indicates she is beginning to assert herself.
By the end of the episode, Yong-ho manages to pull off another major victory. He gets the property taken from Bang-geul returned earlier and notes that its value could soar with future development plans. Bang-geul wonders if he’s acting selfishly. Yong-ho doesn’t answer.
The last few moments bring a new twist. While out for a late night drive in Kang Yong-ho’s sports car, Jae-gyeong spots Yong-ho. As soon as you see “Jun-hyeon” behind the wheel of a car like her father’s, suspicion begins to set in. For the first time, someone is perilously close to uncovering the truth.
The fourth episode skillfully juggles corporate intrigue, family drama and fantastical elements. Yong-ho continues to prove himself a master strategist as well, but each win comes with the risk of exposure. With Jae-gyeong questioning his identity, and the twins’ rivalry growing hotter by the second, the story is about to enter its most dangerous chapter yet.## Review of Episode
Several huge wins for Yong-ho in this episode, but also one of the show’s growing challenges. The corporate politics have gotten so detailed that the fantasy soul-swap premise gets shoved to the side sometimes. The business maneuvering is interesting enough, but it’s often the emotional story of Yong-ho’s family that resonates most.
Bang-geul and “Jun-hyeon” also have more and more complicated relations. She slowly falls for the man, but she doesn’t know that he is actually her father’s persona and he is controlling his actions. She thinks he is Jun-hyeon. That weird dynamic adds an uncomfortable but fascinating layer to the story, one that will likely become more important as the series goes on.
Most of all, the suspicion of Jae-gyeong brings a new source of tension to the story. For a few episodes Yong-ho has been able to do what she wants, but she might not be able to do that if she keeps putting the pieces together. The final scene suggests that his greatest challenge may no longer be defeating the twins but keeping his secret alive.
