The Walking Dead universe fans finally have something to look foward to. AMC has officially dropped the first trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3, confirming the next chapter of the hit spinoff will premiere on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
The new season will be eight episodes long and will see Maggie and Negan once again facing the threats of a destroyed New York City. But the new footage that’s just been released hints that Season 3 will change direction.
Maggie and Negan seem to be working towards a common goal of building a stable and thriving community in Manhattan, rather than just focusing on survival and conflict. With years of tension, distrust and personal history behind them, the unlikely pair now faces the challenge of building a future in one of the most dangerous locations left in the post-apocalyptic world.
The trailer is a lot lighter than in previous seasons, with quite a few moments of humour and sharp exchanges between the two leads. The Walking Dead’s Maggie (Lauren Cohan) still wrestles with her complicated relationship with Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan, and the latter’s past actions continue to loom large over their partnership.
However, the ending is more upbeat and the emotional scars between the characters are left unresolved. It looks like Season 3 will explore whether two people can ever really work together when their history is full of loss, betrayal, and anger.
Also boosting the cast are a number of high-profile additions from showrunner Seth Hoffman. Lucifer alum Aimee Garcia is coming aboard the series as Renata, and Raul Castillo will play Luis. Both newcomers seem poised to assume important roles in the future of Manhattan’s growing community.
Logan Kim returns as Hershel still struggling with the trials of growing up in a world that has been shaped by violence and uncertainty.
One of the most interesting new additions is Jimmi Simpson, who plays a new villain named Dillard. From the trailer, Dillard looks to be turning into the embodiment of many of the darker qualities that made up Negan himself. The character could push Negan to confront his past actions and question the type of leader he wants to be going forward.
Post-apocalyptic New York as the setting for the series remains one of its greatest strengths. The city, from its towering skyscrapers and rooftop walkways to its abandoned subway tunnels full of walkers, remains a dramatic backdrop unlike anything else in The Walking Dead franchise.
The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated entries in the franchise, with a focused eight-episode season, new characters and an evolving relationship at the heart of the story. Fans can catch the season premiere on AMC and AMC+ starting July 26, 2026.
