In Episode 7 of ‘The Agency’ the stakes are raised dramatically as Martian finds himself caught between duty, love and survival. Samia is in danger, Poppy is under threat and a dangerous plan against Valhalla takes hold. The pressure builds from all sides.# Samia Faces a Serious Danger
The episode begins with Samia getting a scary warning. She is warned that if she tries to leave her home or see Paul again, her family will pay a deadly price. Shaken and frightened, she immediately contacts Martian and tells him she is no longer safe.
Martian says they will find a solution but it is becoming more and more obvious that they are running out of options. The danger is rising around them and every move they make is being followed.
There’s still tension at home. “Stay inside until things settle down,” Martian says, worried about his daughter’s safety.# Attacking Poppy
Like many teenagers, Poppy ignores the warning and goes ahead anyway. Unfortunately, she’s being followed.
Luckily Martian had already put in protection. An agency operative arrives just in time, pulling Poppy to safety and helping her elude a surveillance team that reports back to Beijing.
The incident is another reminder that the threat is not limited to Martian and Samia. Now his family is squarely in the cross-hairs.# What’s The Deal With Valhalla
Back at the agency, more details come to light about Operation Valhalla.
The organization is run by General Volchok, who commands a network of specialized mercenaries conducting covert operations worldwide.” Valhalla operates in war zones such as Syria, Libya and Iraq and sells its services to the highest bidder.
The group has been accused of numerous war crimes but it has been hard to find proof of the charges. Being based in several countries makes them incredibly difficult to track and bring to justice.
Henry says Valhalla keeps its people in line through fear and violence. Anyone who dares to challenge the organization risks being taken out, often in a brutal fashion intended to send a message to others.
The legal issues are just as complex. Most of Valhalla’s units are registered to other foreign entities, making it hard for investigators to draw a direct link to Russia. Any attack on the group carries enormous political and personal risks.# Alexei Enters the Danger Zone
The agency comes up with a risky scheme involving Alexei Orekhov.
Martian believes Alexei can be useful deep behind enemy lines, but the mission appears nearly suicidal. Alexei has little choice. To refuse the mission might mean a grim fate of his own.
Viewers will remember Alexei as the man who was tested and tortured earlier in the season. Now he’s up against another impossible challenge. ### Questions for Henry about Mars
As Alexei contemplates his future, Henry brings Martian in for a tough talk.
The conversation quickly turns to Poppy and the details of her recent meeting. Martian survives the interrogation by turning the attention to the agency’s current business with Eric Huang and Sudan.
In the meeting he proposes a daring idea, to recruit Samia as an asset of the agency.
It sounds like a strategic suggestion, but one can’t ignore the emotional connection between them.
Martian reassures Poppy before he leaves, and discreetly gives details that back up his version of events.# Naomi starts to wonder
Martian’s increasing attachment to Samia is becoming harder to conceal.
Dr Blake questions Naomi about the relationship and wonders if Martian still has feelings for Samia. She also questions whether Martian is using Naomi’s trust as a shield for Samia.
Those concerns moved up the chain quickly.
Later Naomi expresses her fears to Henry, saying she is worried Martian’s judgment will be clouded by emotion. Henry tells her that suspicion is not enough, she needs proof.
Unfortunately for Martian, that proof may be out there already. Naomi starts looking at past interviews where Martian and Samia were involved, including conversations hinting at a potential romantic relationship beyond their professional interactions.# Danny Gets Things Into Her Own Hands
Danny gets some bad news somewhere else.
She learns that she won’t be going to Iran after all, because Reza has chosen another researcher for the assignment.
Danny is determined not to miss the chance, and pushes himself to extremes. She forces the substitute scientist and his family to withdraw by making Edward threaten them.
When the intimidation doesn’t work immediately Danny quickly resorts to a back up plan.
The plot shows how much she’s changed and how deep she’s become in the cut-throat world of intelligence operations.## Samia and the Agency
The agency is launching a plan called the “Jack-in-the-Box” operation.
Samia received an email from the officials, saying her visa was revoked for too many missed classes. Osman finds the message and insists she fix the situation immediately.
Samia takes herself to the college to sort out the problem, but sure enough, she walks straight into the agency’s trap.
Plan is perfect.# Martian Attempts to Protect His Family
Back at their home, Martian tries to calm Poppy’s fears by telling her that what happened was only a precautionary exercise and that now everything is under control.
It is another lie meant to shield his family from the truth.
But the situation keeps getting worse, and it raises an important question: how long can Martian keep everyone safe while hiding what is really happening?# Alexei Meets General Volchok
Finally, Alexei meets General Volchok face to face in Belarus.
Alexei suggests, in an effort to gain the general’s trust, that Volchok’s trucking company has been overbilled by approximately 25 percent on its invoices.
Volchok is surprised by the revelation, but not surprised enough to win his confidence.
Alexei watches the general intently, surprised by his capacity for such an unruffled demeanor under immense pressure. Most would have cracked under that kind of interrogation, but Alexei stands his ground and gets out of the encounter.
Martian acquires valuable intelligence and identifies a possible weakness in the organization: the general’s secretary.
But Volchok is still suspicious. As he digs into Alexei’s past, he begins to get the feeling that something’s not quite right and that the CIA is somehow involved.# Explanation of Ending
The episode concludes with Samia reaching college right on time.
Martian is waiting for her.
The ending moments are very suggestive that Martian is finally ready to reveal all about who he is and what’s been going on behind the scenes.
But if that happens, everything could be different.# Rezension:
Episode 7 is one of the best episodes of The Agency so far. The series finds the right mix of personal drama, espionage and political intrigue as the tension slowly ratchets up.
The emotional core of the story remains Martian’s relationship with Samia, and increasingly it seems that his feelings may ultimately destroy all that he has worked to protect.
Danny’s story is a further illustration of how quickly idealism can go out the window in the intelligence world. Her willingness to cross moral lines demonstrates the ruthlessness of the business.
Meanwhile, the Valhalla storyline adds another layer of complexity with a dangerous adversary who feels both powerful and unpredictable.
Episode 8 has all the hallmarks of a big turning point in the season, as Martian seems to be ready to spill his secrets and several plot lines are on a collision course.
