Mad Concrete Dreams – K-drama Episode 7 Recap & Review

The first scene of Episode 7 of Mad Concrete Dreams is a flashback to Yi-gyeong and Hwal-sung’s wedding. Even then, it’s clear that Kim-sun is jealous. Su-jong is really happy for his friend, but Yi-gyeong doesn’t know what kind of man she is marrying. Hwal-sung sings a song for Su-jong as a thank-you for hosting the party. The song hints at how fragile friendships can be.

Su-jong shows Kim-sun a new apartment right now and says she will buy it for her in three years. Hee-joo makes fun of his timeline in a playful way. Later, when Su-jong tries to set the mood for romance at home, Da-rae interrupts and stops everything.

Su-jong is angry and goes to the basement, where he finds Hwal-sung waiting for him. Hwal-sung confronts him about his share of the ransom after he gets out of the hospital. Su-jong ends their partnership without any hesitation, saying that the police got in the way. Hwal-sung tries to blame Yang-ja by saying she told the police, but Su-jong doesn’t believe him.

As Su-jong says he has also made a deal with Deputy Nam to buy Mr. Kim’s properties, the tension rises. Hwal-sung, who is already upset about Yang-ja’s death and what happened with Dong-gi, lashes out. He calls Su-jong weak for siding with a shady person like Deputy Nam. The insult leads to a heated argument, and Su-jong strikes back by bringing up Kim-sun’s affair. The fight almost gets violent, but Hwal-sung gets away.

Su-jong runs after him into the street, where a car hits Hwal-sung. Su-jong goes home despite the chaos, but he calls for an ambulance to make sure Hwal-sung is taken back to the hospital.

Su-jong goes to the hospital the next morning, pretending to be worried. Doctors say that Hwal-sung has transient global amnesia, which means that he can only remember things that happened weeks ago and not the kidnapping or Yang-ja’s death. He is sad about his mother-in-law’s death and asks to be let go, even asking to visit her grave. Yi-gyeong, on the other hand, is still not sure about his health.

In the meantime, Su-jong tells Kim-sun that Hwal-sung has amnesia. Da-rae is relieved, but she can tell that her father isn’t happy. Kim-sun gets a strange message, but she decides not to read it.

Hwal-sung quickly changes the subject to the inheritance after visiting Yang-ja’s grave. Yi-gyeong signs papers during a meeting with the family lawyer, giving him the job of taking care of the estate. Hwal-sung is secretly blackmailing the lawyer to give him everything, which shows that his amnesia is just an act. Yi-gyeong is worried and hires loan sharks from Loan Heaven to watch him.

Su-jong is in charge of fixing the ongoing electrical problems at Se-yoon’s building. The electrician suggests replacing the whole system, but he chooses a temporary fix instead. Later, in the basement, Yo-na and Dr. Jang confront him and take him to meet Deputy Nam. As part of a plan to redevelop the area, the deputy pushes Su-jong to get Yi-gyeong to sell Pyeongbukgwan. Su-jong agrees, but only if he gets half of the shares. Deputy Nam seems open to the idea, but after the job is done, he tells Yo-na to kill Su-jong.

Su-jong thinks about Kim-sun’s past affair again as they get ready for a private dinner, but she says it’s over.

In another place, Yi-gyeong talks to a nurse that Kim-sun suggested and asks about the anesthesia that was used on Hwal-sung. Ju-ran keeps looking into Su-jong at the police station. Yi-gyeong comes with a vial of anesthesia and asks if it is the same as what was used to drug her during her kidnapping.

When Hwal-sung shows up at the dinner party and starts whispering to Kim-sun while Su-jong talks to Deputy Nam, things get tense. Hwal-sung tries to shift the blame, but Kim-sun surprises him by saying she already knows the truth. He turns and blames Su-jong for Kim-gyun’s death.

Su-jong stays calm when he realizes that Hwal-sung is faking his memory loss. After the event, he asks Kim-sun about the conversation, but she gets angry and reminds him of his own mistakes, especially the kidnapping of Yi-gyeong.

Su-jong is so angry that he leaves and meets Yi-gyeong to talk about the redevelopment deal and how it will help them financially. She agrees in principle, but she wants to talk about it privately before she signs anything. Ju-ran confirms that the anesthesia matches during their meeting. Su-jong says he knew about the affair and the kidnapping, and he says Hwal-sung planned it all. For Kim-sun and Da-rae’s sake, he tells Yi-gyeong to do things that are out of the ordinary.

In the meantime, Da-rae gets a letter saying she got into Harvard. While she’s celebrating, she finds CCTV footage of her father hitting Hwal-sung. She is shocked and records the video, reading their lips as they argue and finding out disturbing things. She feels overwhelmed and shuts herself off from the rest of the world to start writing down everything.

Kim-sun, on the other hand, can’t stop thinking about what Hwal-sung said about her brother’s death.

Later, Su-jong runs into Hee-joo at a store that sells everything. She talks him into coming to her office with her. In another place, Yi-gyeong confronts Hwal-sung and kicks him out of the house.

The next morning, Hwal-sung corners Kim-sun with a recording that makes it sound like Su-jong is going to get a divorce. He tells her to leave her husband and be with him, and he offers to help her.

The episode ends with a shocking twist: Su-jong wakes up in Hee-joo’s office to find her dead next to a bloody glass jar, which is likely the weapon used to kill her. At that moment, Kim-sun calls him, and his fate is up in the air.

Review of the Episode

In Episode 7, the story gets even more chaotic as Su-jong gets caught up in schemes that get more and more dangerous. The mystery surrounding Hee-joo’s death adds to the excitement. Was it Yi-gyeong, Hwal-sung, or someone else, like Yo-na?

At this point, it’s hard to feel sorry for most of the characters. Only Da-rae and Yi-gyeong are real victims in all the lies and betrayal.

Kim-sun and Hwal-sung are still the most unlikable people in the show. It’s especially annoying to watch them because they are selfish and willing to betray others. As the tension rises, the excitement for Yi-gyeong’s revenge grows stronger. If done well, it will be worth the wait.
