Mad Concrete Dreams – K-drama Episode 10 Recap & Review

A flashback to nine years ago starts off Episode 10 of Mad Concrete Dreams. It shows a key moment in Hwal-sung’s past. He tells Su-jong to put money into the Seyun Building so that she can have a stable future. At this point, Yi-gyeong is pregnant, and Yang-ja has become less angry with Hwal-sung. Hwal-sung asks Yang-ja for money to buy the building because he wants to build something for his growing family.

That hope quickly fades away. Yi-gyeong has a miscarriage, and Yang-ja tells Hwal-sung to break up with Yi-gyeong. Hwal-sung can’t get the money, so he doesn’t go through with the deal, and his relationships with both women start to fall apart.

In the present, Kim-sun is saved just in time by her friend Ae-su, who uses a taser to subdue Dong-chul. Kim-sun is able to bring Hwal-sung back to life with her help. When he wakes up, Kim-sun and Su-jong make him sign papers before they leave for the Seyun Building, leaving Ae-su in charge of what happens next.

In another part of the story, Yi-gyeong tries to get Da-rae to turn against her parents by telling her they are murderers. Da-rae says no, saying that Yi-gyeong is also to blame for pushing them to that point. The fight between them shows how the series blurs the lines between right and wrong, as each side sticks to its own version of the truth.

Yi-gyeong lets Da-rae and Kim-sun go in the storage room without warning. But before Su-jong can leave, he calls Ju-ran and says he has caught the person she has been looking for. He tells her to come to the building.

In the meantime, Ae-su’s life is getting worse and worse. She is able to hold Dong-chul back, but he breaks free after hitting her and quickly realizes that Hwal-sung is still alive. He tells Yi-gyeong, and the chase begins. Dong-chul’s men are getting closer, so Kim-sun, Su-jong, and Da-rae have to run away.

The stress inside the building rises. Kim-sun and Da-rae are hiding in a locker on the third floor while Su-jong tries to keep Dong-chul and his group from getting in. At the same time, Dr. Jang and Yo-na look into the murder scene at Hee-joo’s office from earlier. Su-jong sends a desperate message asking Yo-na to save them, remembering that she offered to help.

When Yo-na gets there and Su-jong barely makes it out, a new disaster happens. Yang-ja’s earlier sabotage, which involved cutting pipes, is now causing a lot of water to leak. Su-jong doesn’t fix the damage, which causes a short circuit. Soon, the Seyun Building is on fire.

When Hwal-sung wakes up, Ae-su tells him that Yi-gyeong has taken Da-rae. He rushes to the building even though he is hurt and gets there just as emergency workers are gathering outside.

The final fight moves to the roof of the burning building. As the fire spreads below, Yi-gyeong keeps Da-rae hostage. Hwal-sung’s arrival only makes her more angry because she thinks everyone is out to get her.

Hwal-sung begs for a chance to talk to her to calm her down. He admits what he did in the past: he kidnapped Yi-gyeong in a desperate attempt to get away from Yang-ja and start a new life with her. He says he’s sorry and wants to start over to protect their child and finally be honest.

His words cut through her anger. Yi-gyeong lets Da-rae go, but in the confusion, she loses her balance and falls off the roof. Without thinking, Hwal-sung jumps after her and protects her with his body. He gives up his own life to save hers.

Yo-na fights Dong-chul in another part of the building and ends up killing him. When Ju-ran gets there, Yo-na tries to distract Dr. Jang, but Ju-ran acts quickly and stops him. Yo-na gives up and breaks down because there is no way out.

Yi-gyeong is taken to the hospital right away, while Kim-sun, Su-jong, and Da-rae are saved. Su-jong watches helplessly as firefighters fight the ruins of the Seyun Building, which is now just a burned shell.

Su-jong wakes up in the hospital hours later to find Ju-ran there. She tells him he has to go to the police to be questioned. He tries to hide Yi-gyeong’s role in Da-rae’s kidnapping, but CCTV footage shows a different story.

While this is going on, Yi-gyeong admits to her crimes and takes full responsibility. But she also says that Su-jong planned several events, such as her own kidnapping, Dong-ki’s case, and her mother’s death. She says she has proof on her phone and from other people that these claims are true.

When Yi-gyeong finds out that Hwal-sung has died, the emotional weight of the episode hits her the hardest. She doesn’t say much, but her reaction is terrible; she starts to cry.

In a morally complicated turn of events, Su-jong tells Kim-sun to get Da-rae ready for questioning so that their stories match up. But Da-rae has a different idea. She deletes videos from Yi-gyeong’s phone that could be used against him in court, which destroys important evidence of their crimes in order to protect everyone, including Yi-gyeong.

The episode ends with a creepy discovery: archaeologists find Hee-joo’s body at a site being redeveloped, which brings back the mystery of her death.

The Review of the Episode

Episode 10 is one of the most intense and emotional parts of the series. Hwal-sung’s last act of sacrifice makes his character even more tragic and gives him a sense of redemption just before he dies.

The Seyun Building’s destruction is a strong metaphor for how everything the characters fought for is now gone, leaving only guilt, loss, and consequences that can’t be changed. Su-jong and Kim-sun, in particular, seem to have gone too far to turn back.

The arc of Yi-gyeong is just as sad. Even though she still loves Hwal-sung, his death is even worse. But the fact that she is still alive and her pregnancy is still going on shows that there is a small chance for the future.

The episode also goes into more detail about Yo-na and Dr. Jang’s roles, showing how their connection to Su-jong has put them in more danger.

But there is still one big question that needs to be answered: Who killed Hee-joo? The series is getting ready for a tense ending with only two episodes left. It’s not clear if Su-jong, Kim-sun, and the others will be able to avoid the consequences of what they’ve done, but the walls are clearly closing in.
