If Wishes Could Kill – K-drama Episode 8 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

If Wishes Could Kill episode 8 picks up right where the last one left off, with Se-ah shaking and Na-ri laughing while Geon-woo threatens to kill her if she dies.

The phone rings at that moment. Haetsal tells Geon-woo to get Se-ah to her right away because time is running out. Se-ah, who is having a hard time because of her condition, begs Geon-woo not to answer the phone. As Se-ah has another seizure, he doesn’t know who to trust anymore. The scene changes quickly when Se-ah wakes up in a strange place.

What goes on in the First Realm?

Se-ah is back at school with her friends. Everything seems fine, and her classmates tell her that the curse is over and Haetsal saved them all. Na-ri even says she’s sorry, and Geon-woo acts like a caring boyfriend and tries to calm her down.

For a short time, Se-ah thinks this is real. She thinks it was all just a panic attack, especially since the cursed app is no longer on their phones. But she quickly sees something strange about the school building. She sees many different versions of herself when she looks out the window. The phone suddenly comes back and takes her to another world.

What goes on in the Second Realm?

Se-ah goes back to the cursed realm she was in with Haetsal before. Na-ri is also there this time, but she’s possessed and trying to stop Se-ah from breaking the curse.

In the real world, though, Geon-woo uses Bang-wool’s compass to figure out who is telling the truth. He jumps into a taxi and speeds toward Haetsal’s location to try to save Se-ah. Along the way, he has to deal with supernatural forces that keep putting his life in danger. He has trouble finding the right way because he is lost in the woods.

Haetsal is still trying to light a helium paper lantern at the same time. She finally succeeds after a few tries, which lets Geon-woo find her. They start the ritual to destroy the maehyung when he gets there.

Is the Maehyung gone?

The maehyung isn’t Hye-rung’s phone, as was thought before. In the cursed realm, Na-ri, who is possessed, tries to attack Se-ah, but Haetsal gets there just in time to save her. Haetsal’s mask breaks during the fight.

She says they need to make a door to get out of the realm. But Hye-rung shows up and tells them to go to the media room. There, it is shown that Hye-rung’s condition has changed, as if she has been freed from the curse.

Haetsal now knows that Si-won’s phone is the real maehyung, and it is probably hidden in the media room. She makes a plan: while Se-ah looks for the phone, she will use the deolmi ritual to keep Si-won’s spirit busy.

In real life, Haetsal starts the deolmi ritual and shows up in the cursed realm as Hye-rung. Si-won is shocked to see her old friend apparently healed, but she quickly figures out that it’s a trick and attacks her, ending the ritual.

The Last Fight Between Se-ah and Na-ri

Na-ri, who is no longer fully possessed, still tries to keep Se-ah from getting to the locked door in the media room. She won’t take responsibility for what she did because she says everything is unfair.

They get into a fight. At first, Se-ah holds back and tries to talk her out of it. But Se-ah can’t take it anymore when Na-ri won’t show any remorse. The fight gets worse, and Na-ri stabs Se-ah with a broken broom handle.

In response, Se-ah knocks Na-ri out cold.

The Last Fight Against the Curse

Se-ah gets to the phone while Haetsal is stuck and connected to Si-won’s spirit through a ritual. Haetsal tries to break the phone, but it doesn’t work. Se-ah runs to get an arrow she needs to finish the ritual.

The spirit of Si-won reacts violently, breaking the glass around it. Even though things are crazy, Se-ah uses the arrow to break the phone, breaking the curse and saving both herself and Haetsal.

They come back to the real world hurt but alive.

What Happened at the End

The cursed realm falls apart after the maehyung is destroyed, trapping Na-ri inside. People think she is dead.

A few days later, the students get together to remember Hyeong-wook. Bang-wool can now see spirits and sees Hyeong-wook’s spirit finally leave.

Geon-woo tells Se-ah to get rid of the cursed app on her phone. She thinks about it for a while because she is still sad about losing Na-ri and Hyeong-wook, but she finally agrees.

Bang-wool makes things better later by teasing Ha-joon and saying he thought he would lose him. He also suggests that there may still be a way to save Haetsal.

In the last chapter, Soo-san breaks into the school and finds Na-ri’s phone. He says that someone on Discord told him where to find it. He opens the Girigo app in the hopes of finding out the truth about Hyeong-wook’s death.

Review of the Episode

The ending makes you wonder if the curse is really gone. Na-ri’s spirit might still be around and could even be talking to people on Discord. This gives another supernatural being the chance to take over the app.

The story could also be a metaphor for how human emotions like jealousy, anger, and resentment are the real source of the curse, not the app itself.

This episode is very sad and about survival. The group starts to deal with their losses while trying to move on. People know that Hyeong-wook is dead, but they still hope that Haetsal can be saved.
