Man on Fire – Season 1 Episode 4 Recap & Review

In episode 4 of Man on Fire the extraction team are waiting for Poe and Creasy, but they never arrive. Creasy acts on his own and soon the mission disintegrates into chaos.
Creasy’s Interrogation Scheme
Creasy tricks Mateus into locking himself, his mother and Osmar in a panic room. He holds the family at gunpoint and gives them an ultimatum. Osmar (Gabriel) is as good as dead, but the family can live if Osmar tells him all he knows about the FRP and the bombing.
The chaos of the favela
Back in the favela, Osmar’s men hold her at gunpoint, while Melo signals danger with car blinkers. The gang mobilizes immediately and arms up. Meanwhile Poe is confused by the situation and thinks the favela has turned against her. She runs off with Livro trying to stop her. Vico steps in, takes control and insists he’s the one who’ll handle Beto’s job.
The Deadly Chase
Gunfire erupts in the favela, taking out one of Osmar’s goons. The last thug, Gray Beard, attempts to get away but runs into Poe and Livro, who he then takes prisoner.
CIA Involvement Grows
Osmar is working under duress and Creasy uploads vital blueprints to his old CIA portal. Tappen decides to review the information again before presenting it to President Carmo, adding another layer of political tension.
Secrets Exposed Under Duress
Durante o interrogatório, Osmar afirma que não sabe quem é o misterioso motociclista, dizendo que ele apenas ficou responsável de vigiar o ataque. Creasy pretends to be injured to Mateus. Osmar tells him that a man in the United States was assigned to keep track of Poe in case the mission in Rio goes wrong.
Hostage Crisis Worsens
Gray Beard extends Osmar’s place and suggests a hostage exchange: Poe and Livro for Osmar and his family. During the call, Poe begs Creasy for help, awakening traumatic memories of his team’s deaths. Creasy falls unconscious, giving Osmar the fleeting chance to tell his son to head for the exit.
Vico Takes a Chance
Vico, angry at Beto for putting Livro in danger, decides to go solo. He tries to take out Poe, hoping to expose Gray Beard. But the plan goes wrong when Gray Beard keeps moving, and Livro is accidentally shot in the arm.
Emergence of Key Evidence
Creasy recovers and stops Mateus from running away. Meanwhile he uploads a recorded confession from Osmar explaining all those involved in the bombing. Tappen and the CIA director are impressed and agree to tell Soares about it.
The Hostages Exchange
Melo calls Creasy and they agree to go ahead with the hostage swap. The exchange happens in the mountains, high tension. Osmar’s men are trained and keep their distance, while the less experienced members of the favela nervously train their weapons on Gray Beard.
The exchange is successful, despite the high stakes.
Fallout and Emotional Confrontation
After the swap, Beto scolds Livro for messing up. Shaken and emotional, Poe blames Creasy for abandoning her. Creasy apologizes, but the issue between them isn’t resolved. Poe admits she knows who the mysterious biker is.
Creasy, Poe and Melo regroup with Melo’s daughter Mariana and take up residence in a new safehouse.
The Cover Up Begins
Everyone involved in the bombing has been neutralized by Brazilian authorities, according to news reports. Osmar is said to have committed suicide, and his family was reportedly arrested while trying to flee.
It appears the truth is far more complex.
Hidden Purposes of Tappen
Creasy does not say anything. Tappen says he will go down to Rio himself to help. But in private, he confesses a darker goal: he plans to kill both Creasy and Poe.
Review of Episode 4
The pacing is a big step up in Episode 4, with slow parts traded for action, high tension conflicts, and dramatic turns of events. The episode successfully re-engages viewers with its blend of shootouts, hostage negotiations, and betrayals.
Tappen is a major villain, possibly connected to Ferraz and the wider conspiracy. Meanwhile Creasy is still fighting his ruthless instincts and lingering humanity. His unwillingness to harm Mateus and his willingness to exchange hostages for Poe demonstrate this inner conflict.
But Melo remains underutilized. While actress Alice Braga has displayed commanding presence and proven action skills in past roles, her character is once again sidelined. It feels like a missed opportunity to further strengthen the narrative.
Overall Episode 4 ramps up the stakes and sets up some big developments for the episodes ahead.
