In Episode 14 of Phantom Lawyer, I-rang has to deal with the consequences of missing his date with Na-hyun. He runs to the restaurant, but when he gets there, she is already outside, looking upset. He says he’s sorry but doesn’t explain why. Instead, he asks her to stay away from the office for a few days.
Kyung-hwa gets worried when I-rang doesn’t come home overnight, but Bong-soo calms her down and says he will check on him. At the same time, I-rang is having a hard time at work because the ghost of his father, Gi-jung, keeps getting in the way of his life. I-rang won’t take on his father’s case, even though he knows he should. This leaves Shin Gi-jung confused because he can’t remember anything.
Na-hyun, who wants to figure out why I-rang is acting the way she is, is working on the case involving Si-ho’s father. When she calls I-rang to get an update, he suddenly tells her they are no longer working on the case and doesn’t explain why.
Bong-soo comes back to the office with breakfast that Kyung-hwa made. The meal is one of Gi-jung’s favorites, which brings back memories of I-rang’s childhood. He tells Bong-soo to keep the food sealed and to act quickly if anything happens because he is afraid of possession. But Bong-soo opens the container without knowing it, letting Gi-jung’s ghost take over I-rang and eat the food before Bong-soo stops it.
In another part of the story, Na-hyun calls Prosecutor Kim and learns more about a case from 20 years ago. Bong-soo goes home at the same time and tells Kyung-hwa about the strange meeting. When she opens the empty container, she finds a piece of paper art that makes her think of her dead husband, which makes her suspicions even stronger.
I-rang is determined to fix things, so he doesn’t help his father. Instead, he makes his spirit move on. He gets a talisman and calls a priest to set up a ritual as soon as possible.
Gi-jung, who still doesn’t have his memories, has a hard time understanding why I-rang is angry. When I-rang is confronted, he says he is corrupt, frames innocent people, and ruins lives. Gi-jung is heartbroken because he can’t understand how these accusations fit with who he thinks he is.
While I-rang is on his way to see the priest, he can’t stop thinking about his childhood, when he played arcade games and learned baseball with his dad. Gi-jung decides to step back when she sees I-rang’s pain. He can’t remember his past, but he believes I-rang’s story and tells him he will respect whatever choice he makes.
Later, I-rang goes home, and Kyung-hwa quietly supports him without asking questions. In the meantime, Na-hyun meets with Jae-wook to talk about his father’s death, which may not have been a suicide. She also finds out that an anonymous message revealed I-rang’s link to Gi-jung, which makes her look into the case from twenty years ago.
The next day, Na-hyun waits outside I-rang’s house and takes him to the park. She softly tells him that she knows about his father’s ghost and offers to help him, saying that she will be there for him until he is ready to talk.
I-rang starts looking into his father’s past after being encouraged. He goes to see Chairman Yang, who tells him about an old case in Incheon that involved Corporal Choi Dong-man. At the same time, Do-gyeong becomes more and more suspicious of what his father is doing and pushes Min-hyuk for answers, learning disturbing things about attempts to get rid of Gi-jung’s ghost.
Kyung-hwa asks Priest Tae-oh for help and finds out that ghosts without memories are attracted to places that have strong feelings. She remembers a family trip to the beach and decides to follow that lead.
As I-rang and Na-hyun keep looking into things, they go to Chinatown, where a business owner says that Gi-jung used to work with the Four Dragons Gang to shake down local businesses. In this version of the story, Chairman Yang is the hero who took down the gang.
I-rang, who is feeling down, starts to believe that his father might really be corrupt. But a twist shows that Chairman Yang set up the testimony and told the business owner what to say.
