Jae-Gyeong Clings Tighter to Choiseong
Jae-Gyeong is riding the high of having company executives on his side, fresh from GF Solutions’ acquisition. Now she has the momentum with her and starts putting herself forward as the obvious future leader of Choiseong.
Meanwhile, the unexpected happens when Eun-Se takes over Jae-Seong’s position as Director of Trading. Says her husband is officially too sick to run business. Overnight rise to power raises red flags about her real motives.
Flashback reveals a crucial secret. Jae-Seong tells Eun-Se about the incident with Yong-Ho and the smother attempt. Eun-Se chooses to hide the information instead of passing it on to Jae-Gyeong, obviously seeing it’s worth as future leverage.
The move indicates she is playing a far longer game than anyone knows.
Yong-Ho is Sent Abroad on a New Mission
Yong-Ho, Bang-Geul and Bong-Ki arrive at Yulivia on a mission and soon enough it becomes more important than anyone expected. Corporate politics heat up in Korea.
The trio finds out that Byung-Mo is negotiating a huge lithium mining project with Prime Minister Fernando. Yong-Ho sees the financial opportunity and the danger of Byung-Mo’s involvement, and decides they must get involved before Taeha takes over the project.
The operation needs deception, surveillance and a bit of improvisation. Yong-Ho and Bang-Geul investigate the mining operation and gather evidence while Bong-Ki creates distractions.
They are working well together and this is improving all the time during the trip, showing how much trust has grown between them.
Recognition for Bang-Geul Begins
One of the best parts of Episode 6 is watching Bang-Geul keep growing.
Fed up with her family’s years of neglect, she talks about making her own way to a career. Unlike many in the Kang family, she’s had to fight for every opportunity on her own.
Yong-Ho tells her not to give up and points out that recognition often comes after working hard.
Those words become more and more important as the episode goes on.
For most of the series, Bang-Geul has been on the sidelines of the succession battle. Episode 6 does a lot to shift that narrative, showing her business instincts and leadership potential.
Sun-Hee Learns the Truth
Back in Korea the family conflict takes a darker turn.
Before the next shareholder vote, Jae-Gyeong tries to get the support of Sun-Hee. She presents herself as a competent future leader, arguing that Yong-Ho is getting better and even citing American medical experts in her defense.
However, her carefully constructed image starts to crumble.
Suk-Do questions her about the attack on Yong-Ho, and while Jae-Gyeong denies everything, Sun-Hee hears enough to become highly suspicious.
Her fears are later confirmed when she catches Suk-Do secretly adding sedatives to Yong-Ho’s treatment. Sun-Hee realizes the danger surrounding her family… realizing something much more sinister has been happening behind the scenes.
Byung-Mo’s plan unravels
The Yulivia plot line comes to a head when Yong-Ho and his crew are able to break into the hotel rooms of Byung-Mo’s men.
What they discover is shocking.
The documents reveal that Byung-Mo plans to invest hundreds of billions of won into the lithium project while secretly siphoning away an even larger amount for personal gain.
The three have evidence, and they crash an official gala, where they lay out the whole plan for Prime Minister Fernando.
The fallout is instant.
Fernando throws Byung-Mo out of the country and cancels all negotiations. Humiliated, Byung-Mo desperately wants to know who screwed him.
So Bang-Geul jumps at the chance. She has a great business sense and suggests a new alliance through Smile Investments. Her quick thinking earns a deal with the Yulivian government and ultimately turns a dangerous mission into a major victory.
The Shareholder Meeting Takes an Unexpected Turn
The final act returns to the power struggle of Choiseong.
Confident that victory is at hand and he will be the one leading the company, Jae-Gyeong enters the shareholder meeting. Even more surprisingly, Eun-Se votes for her in public, completely taking Jae-Seong by surprise.
Sun-Hee intervenes. Just as the election appears to be over.
Instead of allowing Jae-Gyeong to take over, she argues that the chairman position should be left vacant until Yong-Ho returns. The board agrees and immediately throws Jae-Gyeong’s plans into disarray with a delay.
The decision is a crushing blow to her ambitions and gives breathing space to those who oppose her rise.
Finally, Bang-Geul’s True Identity is Revealed
The biggest surprise of the episode comes in the last few minutes.
Sang-Jae suggests creating a Strategic Planning Team with Bong-Ki, Jun-Hyeon and Bang-Geul.
During the conversation, a shocking truth is revealed that Bang-Geul is actually Yong-Ho’s daughter.
The revelation is a shock to everyone in the room, and instantly changes the succession landscape of the company.
This time, Bang-Geul is not an ignored family member who works in the background. She becomes a real player in the struggle over what will happen to Choiseong.
Episode 6 Recap
Episode 6 is one of the most fun episodes of the season so far, managing to combine corporate warfare, family secrets and international business intrigue.
The Yulivia storyline is on a good momentum and Bang-Geul is becoming one of the most interesting characters of the show. She’s becoming increasingly credible as a future contender in the Kang family, with her confidence, intelligence and ability to think under pressure.
Jae-Gyeong is still on the loose and dangerous, but the traps are starting to close in on her. Sun-Hee knows more than ever, Eun-Se is still working with motives that remain unclear, and Yong-Ho’s influence continues to grow even though he is officially absent.
The biggest question going forward is the location of the real Eun-Se. She seems willing to use both Jae-Gyeong and Jae-Seong whenever it is convenient for her. She is one of the more unpredictable players in the series.
Reborn Rookie has set the stage for an explosive next chapter with Bang-Geul’s secret finally revealed and the chairman election postponed.
