In Episode 9 of Running Point Season 2, the fight for power between the family and the company gets worse. Isla feels more and more alone, and Cam makes a risky move to take control of the Waves.
Cam’s betrayal is revealed
Isla confronts Cam at the beginning of the episode after she finds out he lied about wanting the presidency back while secretly planning to take her job. Cam not only admits what he wants to do, but he also says that he has already made a lot of progress in getting control. He even fires Isla by giving her a pointless job, which shows that he never really believed in her ability to lead.
Cam makes it clear that he wants to be president next season. Isla, who is angry but calm, tells him to leave her alone until then. But the fallout affects the whole Gordon family right away, bringing Jackie, Ness, and Sandy into the fight.
Family divisions grow deeper.
Cam quickly takes charge of how the family works. When Cam threatens Ness’s job, he backs down, which shows that he isn’t strong enough to stand up to him. Cam also blackmails Sandy into doing what he wants by making false claims of embezzlement.
Isla, on the other hand, feels more and more alone. Ali is her only ally because her brothers won’t or can’t help her. Ali even suggests extreme solutions and helps Isla look into different ways to deal with Al’s influence on her finances, but nothing real happens.
Zoe and Dyson’s Relationship Falls Apart
Zoe breaks up with Dyson outside of work after getting a new movie role with Austin Butler. She is about to leave, and Dyson is having a hard time dealing with the breakup.
His emotional instability starts to affect how well he plays, which costs the team a big game. Even though Travis, Brielle, and Marcus are there for him, Dyson gets worse. Later, he tries to win Zoe back with a big gesture, but it doesn’t work, which makes him even more sad.
Isla’s Fight to Keep Power
Isla tries to stop Stephen from making a deal with Al. She gets him to put off signing, but only if she can find a better deal. Her search is hard because neither Ness nor Sandy is helping her.
Isla is running out of options, so she makes a risky deal with Al: she will sell him her shares in exchange for keeping her job as president. This would give Al most of the power, which she knows is a bad deal.
Cam Gets a Better Hold
Cam keeps controlling the people around him, even giving Jackie a promotion. Jackie has to decide whether or not to accept it, which is another sign that the family is falling apart.
At the same time, Cam’s meddling is still making both business and personal relationships in the organization less stable.
A Change for Dyson
Isla steps in to help Dyson, telling him to focus on the game even though everything else is falling apart around them. Dyson gets back in shape because of her words and leads the Waves to a big win.
This moment brings some stability back to the team and strengthens Isla’s position as a leader, even though her future is still up in the air.
The Last Change of Power
Jackie finally agrees to Cam’s offer after a lot of fighting within herself, which gives Cam even more power. On the other hand, Isla gets ready to leave after agreeing to Al’s deal.
But just when everything seems to be in order, Jackie, Ness, and Sandy come up to Isla with a last-minute plan to save her job, which leaves us with a big cliffhanger.
Review of the Episode
Episode 9 builds up a lot of excitement for the season finale by focusing on Cam’s increasingly aggressive bid for power. His manipulation, blackmail, and sense of entitlement make him a clear enemy who is willing to hurt his own family to get what he wants.
Isla’s leadership is also being tested from all sides. Even though she is smart and knows how to hold back, she has to make tough choices that make it hard to tell the difference between survival and betrayal.
Ness and Sandy are in conflict over loyalty and self-preservation, while Jackie is an unexpected wildcard who could change the balance of power. Because he doesn’t know much about the family’s history, he can act more independently, which could make him a key player in the final outcome.
Alliances are breaking up and new ones are forming, which makes the episode set up a tense and uncertain path to the end of the season.
