The action-packed finale of Spider-Noir brings Ben Reilly’s long-running feud with Silvermane to a head, wrapping up its first season with a bang. Secrets are revealed, allegiances turn in unexpected directions and a few of the main characters are faced with choices between power, loyalty and redemption.
The season finale is a nail-biter from beginning to end, with a harrowing showdown that will decide the fate of the criminal underworld of New York and force Ben to face his destiny as the city’s masked avenger.## Dangerous Offer From Cat
Silvermane opens the episode by sharing his perspective on ambition. He tells Cat that success is for those who are prepared to grab opportunities, not wait for them. Silvermane departs and Cat secretly calls Janet to set up a meeting.
There’s nothing friendly about their reunion. Janet is furious about Cat’s previous betrayals and she doesn’t hold back on expressing her anger. But Cat says she wants to set things right. She tells her plan to deliver the antidote to Flint and Dirk Leydon herself, thinking she can get close enough to both men without suspicion.
Janet says she will take the proposal to Ben.
Meanwhile, Flint and Leydon start questioning their relationship with Silvermane. Even with their superhuman skills, they’re still taking orders from a crime boss, and Leydon wonders openly why they still follow him.## Ben Falls Into a Trap
Thanks to Cat’s message, Ben thinks the plan just might work. But before he can do anything, Flint and Leydon show up with a direct invitation from Silvermane.
Ben knows he has little choice and agrees to meet him.
The crime boss orders Ben to contact Spider and set up a meeting at Silvermane’s hideout. Silvermane pays cash for Ben’s cooperation and after some bargaining Ben agrees.
Ben calls Robbie and he agrees to act like Spider to stall them.
The whole situation changes when Leydon suddenly recognizes Ben from his military service in France. The revelation smells fishy and Silvermane starts to connect the dots. He starts to wonder if Ben and Spider might actually be the same person.
Silverman, thinking only Spider would risk everything to save her, threatens Cat to test his theory.# Robbie’s Disguised and Rumbled
But just when Silvermane is about to learn the truth, Robbie shows up in Spider’s mask.
For a moment the trick seems successful;
But Silvermane’s men intercept Janet outside the building and discover the antidotes she had with her. When Leydon takes one of the syringes and tests it on Robbie, the situation spirals out of control. The antidote works, as Robbie is electrocuted and falls down immediately.
Leydon instead begins to pursue his own agenda, rather than passing it on to Silvermane. He wants Flint to walk away from their boss and take over for themselves.
Finally the delicate balance in the room is broken.# Ben Reveals Himself at Last
The masquerade is over and Robbie’s mask is torn off by Leydon, revealing the truth.
With nowhere else to go Ben reveals his identity.
At the same time, his powers all come back.
And the real Spider rises again, reclaiming the antidotes and plunging himself into the fray. There’s chaos. Alliances fall apart. The room is a war zone.
Ben tries to prevent Silvermane’s escape by fighting Flint and Leydon himself.# Cat Takes Down Silvermane
While the super-powered battle rages elsewhere, Cat has her own target to deal with.
Chases Silvermane at gunpoint through a maze of mirrors. Visually the sequence is striking and as reflections and shadows merge it becomes one of the most memorable moments of the episode.
Eventually Cat traps him.
She pulls the trigger and shoots the man who’s manipulated and controlled so many lives this season.
Silvermane didn’t become angry, but accepted his fate. His last words suggest he is almost happy that Cat gets to finish his story.
And so one of New York’s most powerful criminals finally falls.# Dirk Leydon: What Happens to?
Outside the battle is on between Spider, Flint, and Leydon.
Ben takes a brutal beating and Leydon nearly succeeds in killing him. Cat comes in and tries to get in on the act, but her weapon is empty.
Leydon replies with a mighty electrical blast.
The attack infuriates Flint who finally turns on his erstwhile ally. Flint is quickly defeated by lightning, something too much for sand to overcome.
Ben is back on his feet just when Leydon seems unstoppable.
Spider, with his last breath, clutches Leydon and throws him in front of a passing train. Leydon disappears in a shower of sparks.
The episode never confirms if he survives, leaving his ultimate fate uncertain.# Flint’s Second Chance
When the fight is over, Ben makes a surprising decision.
He does not take revenge but gives Flint the last dose of antidote.
The gesture gives Flint a chance to take back control of his life and break the cycle of violence that’s defined much of the season.
“It’s one of Ben’s most selfless moments and shows that under the cynicism Ben still believes people deserve a shot at redemption.# The Conclusion of Spider-Noir
The finale jumps forward to show what happens after the conflict.
Mayor Morris wins the election and Robbie starts his own paper, the Harlem Herald. Ben’s detective agency is Reilly and Ruiz, and Janet, recognizing her importance in the business, is promoted.
Flint and Cat attend Silvermane’s funeral together, foreshadowing the future they’re creating without him.
Ben also shows up at the funeral and has a final word with Cat before the two go their separate ways.
Ben is later seen happily enjoying a quiet day and steering clear of the chaos. But as he walks away he casually uses a web to retrieve his hat.
The small moment is very loud.
The city might finally have peace, but Ben Reilly hasn’t abandoned the Spider.## Episode Review
Spider-Noir concludes on a satisfying and entertaining note that still stays true to all that made the series work. The finale benefits from its limited setting, which places many characters with conflicting goals in one place, and allows tensions to naturally explode.
The writing still sparkles, especially the snappy dialogue of Ben. His sarcastic banter remains funny even in the episode’s darkest moments, and his complicated relationship with Cat continues to be one of the show’s most powerful emotional arcs.
The episode is visually stunning. The Cat and Silvermane showdown in a room filled with mirrors is one of the more inventive sequences of the season and hits the noir vibe that defines the show.
That said, the finale is not perfect. Some of the big developments feel rushed, notably the death of Silvermane. His fall is easier than you might expect, considering the impact he’s had over the course of the season.
The episode also does not fully explore Silvermane’s reaction to Ben’s secret identity. He does learn the truth, but viewers never see a real face-off between the two after the revelation.
But despite its flaws, the finale is still satisfying in all the right ways. Ben is still a nontraditional hero, someone who can save lives but who can also be full of bitterness and sarcasm and personal flaws.
That complexity is what makes for such a compelling protagonist.
Season 1 ends on a hopeful note, but with enough unanswered questions to keep viewers wanting more adventures in this dark and stylish version of the Spider-Man universe.
