The Boys – Season 5 Episode 6 Recap & Review

The Boys Season 5 Episode 6 opens with MM on the hunt for The Legend, who now worked at a Vought-owned movie theater after Homelander froze his assets. MM talks him into helping find Bombsight and get back the V1 compound.

Meanwhile Vought struggles to recreate V1, and repeatedly fails. The company also starts to put an alternative oil supply chain together in Alaska, anticipating global outrage after Homelander’s ascension to power. Tensions rise and The Deep agrees to spread false messaging to environmental groups after learning about the harsh punishment Firecracker faced for her beliefs.

The virus that kills supers is finally finished. The Boys plan to spray it through an air freshener system in the church where Homelander will preach his next sermon. Hughie and Annie set up, The Legend leads the rest of the team to Bombsight’s old girlfriend, Golden Geisha. Kimiko, who idolized Golden Geisha growing up as the only prominent female Asian supe she got to see, is emotionally conflicted about the mission.

Now sober Ashley refuses to cooperate with Sage and gets knocked out. Later Sage shows a vision of Soldier Boy approving Homelander and planning to help get V1. She moves on to “Phase Three,” leaving Vought in her wake.

The Boys kidnap Golden Geisha at the retirement home after she refuses to contact Bombsight. The operation is pretty much unopposed. The retired supes put up little resistance. Kimiko won’t kill, but the rest of the group has no such compunctions. The Legend is disturbed by MM’s increasing ruthlessness and leaves the team.

Elsewhere, Annie puts the mission on hold to enjoy a quiet moment watching clouds with Hughie. She seems to have accepted the surrounding chaos, and Hughie’s optimism gives a momentary emotional break.

Sage shows Homelander some disturbing CCTV footage involving Stormfront and Homelander, in order to lay a trap for Homelander and Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy gets angry and refuses to accept Homelander’s explanation about Stormfront’s feelings, adding to the conflict between them.

Hughie and Annie sneak into the church and discover Firecracker’s body, and files on psychic supes. They confront Oh-Father and exchange a tense ideological battle. He uses sonic powers on Annie, but Hughie bluffs that she is immune and threatens to release the virus. Oh-Father releases them, but the original plan is now in jeopardy.

Sage offers to help the Boys, telling them she wants to be alone without Homelander ruling over her. MM does not buy her reasoning, even though she says they are both headed for similar destruction.

In Alaska, Noir attempts to destroy a pipeline as payback for Bourke’s death, causing an immense ecological disaster. The subsequent fallout turns The Deep against Noir, resulting in his death after marine life he once influenced turns its back on him.

Kimiko makes contact with Golden Geisha who agrees to help stop Bombsight and recover V1. She says she would rather have a short life with meaning than a long one of suffering. This moment causes Kimiko to rethink the whole mission and she later admits that she does not want her loved ones to die while she remains essentially immortal. The new objective is to destroy V1 completely.

Homelander interrogates The Legend one on one, but ends up going in circles. Homelander is angry but after a short chat he lets him go. The Legend, however, inadvertently reveals that Golden Geisha is tracked by a Vought system.

Sage predicts Bombsight will come – and she is right. He shows up and won’t give V1 away, hoping Golden Geisha will come around eventually. Bombsight and The Boys begin fighting At one point, Golden Geisha shows up to save Kimiko.

Soldier Boy shows up, a pawn in Sage’s game, a ghost from Bombsight’s past. The confrontation becomes a personal reckoning for the pair. Finally, Soldier Boy agrees to take away Bombsight’s powers so he can live in peace with Golden Geisha. V1 for bombsight.

After the deal is done, Homelander arrives, and in a surprise twist, Soldier Boy gives him V1. In his opinion, Homelander could be the one to bring Stormfront’s idea of the perfect supe to life. Homelander injects the compound and instantly loses control of his laser powers. Sage is stunned. Chaos erupts. Butcher orders everyone to retreat.

Episode Summary

Episode 6 continues the season’s pattern of character reflection and strategic buildup over quick action. It’s a slow burn, a lot of time is spent on planning, dialogue, and internal conflict, not major plot points.

This pacing choice might feel uneven, particularly with just a couple of episodes left in the season. But it does leave room for the meaningful character interactions and emotional beats that have defined the series.

Some very standout emotional moments especially with Kimiko and Golden Geisha which add depth to their arcs. Some character choices feel inconsistent, though, like MM’s increasingly brutal tendencies and Kimiko’s tonal shifts throughout the season.

Sage is still a controversial figure, and her brilliant strategy is often undermined by convoluted plotting that tests credulity. The role of “mastermind” continues to raise questions about narrative coherence.

The episode is far from perfect, but it does set up major consequences for the final stretch of the season. Homelander’s V1 injection and Soldier Boy’s shifting allegiances suggest that the endgame is near, even if the pacing is not quite in line with that urgency.
