Delilah appears out of nowhere. Their watch is broken. Her arrival immediately causes tension, but the real discoveries are happening further down.## The Sad Story Behind Delilah and Sylas
In the course of exploring the secret chambers, Keyleth unearths evidence that sheds new light on Delilah’s past.
Long before she fell to dark magic, Delilah was desperately trying to save Sylas from becoming a vampire. She tried every way she knew to satisfy his hunger and to rid him of his curse but failed every time.
The more Keyleth digs, the more apparent it becomes that Delilah’s obsession with forbidden magic stemmed from grief and desperation, not simple ambition. Her experiments, many of them ending in disaster, had one goal: to save the person she loved.
This revelation doesn’t excuse her actions, but it does add important layers to a character who has so far been little more than a villain.## Delilah aims for Vax
Delilah’s attention soon turns towards Vax.
She starts to play on his fears and insecurities, knowing how much of a burden he is carrying. She sees his curse is getting worse, and tries to convince him that she might be the only one that can help him.

Keyleth discovers from Delilah’s research about the legendary Renatus Flower, a rare bloom that only occurs once every hundred years.
The flower has amazing healing powers and can cure even the worst diseases according to the records.
The finding provides a ray of hope for Vax, whose condition continues to worsen.
Meanwhile Percy deals with a couple of botched magical experiments hiding in the tunnels, and Vex comes face-to-face with Delilah. Delilah’s been hard to kill before, and she’s putting on an appalling attack again.## Runaway from the Tunnels on the Edge of Ruin
The confrontation reaches its climax when the underground passageways start collapsing all around the group.
They don’t get to stop her, but not before reminding Vax to think about her offer. Her last words hang in the air after she’s gone.
The team just escapes destruction. Once safely outside, Keyleth takes the sample of the Renatus Flower and plants it at the base of the Sun Tree, hoping it will grow into the cure Vax desperately needs.## Grog and Pike Ready for Revenge
Elsewhere, Grog and Pike are back from their latest mission and they have a renewed sense of purpose.
They are determined to confront the Children of Truth but they know they will need powerful weapons before they make their move. Naturally, it sends them on a search for Scanlan, whose powers could be just what they need to win the upcoming battle.The Review: Episode #7
This is a big character driven episode that builds on more than one ongoing story line.
The most interesting part is the backstory of Delilah. Her connection to Sylas transforms her from a mere villain into a much more tragic and complex character in the series. The pain behind her choices makes her presence all the more dangerous and fascinating.
Meanwhile, Vax’s story just keeps gaining steam. His curse is impossible to ignore and Delilah’s attempts to manipulate him suggest his greatest battle may be psychological, not physical.
The Renatus Flower also introduces a clear goal for the future of the season. It’s not exactly the answer to saving Vax, but it’s something to cling to in the dark.
