In Will Trent Season 4 Episode 18 premiere episode, a bunch of teenagers are pulled over by cops when one of the kids hops out of the car for a while. Things get out of hand quickly when there is suspicion of officer violence, and Nick gets hit with a baton while trying to tell everyone that everything will be okay.
Meanwhile, the team plays a softball game against Seth’s group at the GBI office. Despite their efforts they lose the match, but Will Trent finally gets a hit. The mood is light but disappointed after, especially when Ormewood admits he lost $300 betting on their victory.
The teens return to the office shaken and upset, saying they were stopped illegally and that their friend Lizzie was taken by the officers. Trent looks at Nick’s injuries and sees something strange about the pattern of the wounds. This leads him to the important conclusion that the cops involved weren’t real cops, but fakes. Lizzie was kidnapped.
Case of the Week
The central case is to find Lizzie before it’s too late, after identifying two people pretending to be police officers. Faith starts by questioning Lizzie’s parents about whether there have been any threats or ransom demands.
Lizzie’s mother mentions a nurse who was working at the clinic of her husband, Eugene. The nurse was caught stealing medication and was fired, making her a possible suspect.
Meanwhile, a biker captures partial footage of the traffic stop for Ormewood. Franklin finds out the fake police uniforms look just like the ones on a television show. Then the team finds out that Nick had stolen the uniforms which complicates the case even more.
There’s a Bigger Conspiracy Afoot
The former nurse denies any wrongdoing, claiming that Eugene set her up. Angie questions her. As investigators dig deeper into Eugene’s activities, they find inconsistencies. The drugs stolen are unusual – morning-after pills and anti-viral medication normally associated with the treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
This leads to the suspicion that Eugene might be involved in something much more serious than misconduct. His unexplained wealth and sudden disappearance are also suspicious, and could be connected to Lizzie’s disappearance.
Meanwhile, Nick’s online activity leads the team to several abandoned properties. One of these places is connected to a ransom video of Lizzie proving she is being held somewhere in the vicinity.
But Lizzie’s mother insists that they have not received any ransom demand, and becomes more suspicious when she learns that Eugene is missing and has taken a gun from their home.
Eventually Faith finds out exactly where they are keeping Lizzie. She and Ormewood raid the house, and find Nick, Lizzie and another woman. In the chaos, Lizzie gets away with the woman and Nick is arrested.
How Lizzie Escaped Her Kidnappers
While on the interrogation, Faith sees a tattoo on Nick’s neck that reveals an uncomfortable truth: he’s actually a victim of sex trafficking himself. This alters the whole course of the investigation.
Nick opens up and tells Lizzie was helping them expose her father Eugene who is involved in a bigger trafficking ring “Eugene was hiding behind his position as a doctor to cover up the records of victims that had been exploited,” Nick said.
Faith persuades Nick to play ball and the team set up a controlled exchange with Eugene. He retrieves the requested records and passes them over.
But it becomes more dangerous when the authorities see a sniper getting ready to kill the key witnesses. The team arrives just in time to stop the attack. Eugene ends up in handcuffs, and Lizzie calls him out on all the harm he’s done to others.
Angie’s Emergency and the Death of Seth
While investigating, Angie goes into labor suddenly. She refuses to go to the hospital at first, but she calls Seth for help. On the way to the hospital, during the rush, they have an accident. Seth manages to get Angie the care she needs but later collapses from internal bleeding and dies.
Seth’s death is a blow to Angie, and she is deeply affected. Will Trent takes time off work to help her and she moves into his home. They and Nico help out with caring for baby Edie during this difficult time.
Eventually Angie gets over her emotional wounds and comes back to work with Trent. Nico is close to the family and acts as a caretaker for Edie.
How Season 4 Ends: Ending Explained
With Will gone, Faith takes it upon herself to quietly investigate a massive sex trafficking ring. She’s concerned about political meddling in the GBI, so she’s working behind the scenes with APD.
As time passes Faith learns the operation is far more powerful and entrenched than anticipated.
When Trent returns, he learns about a new inter-agency partnership formed between APD and GBI. His new partner in working is Ormewood.
Faith reconnects with Angie, asking her to help her continue the investigation into trafficking. But soon she receives a disturbing package with a dead animal and a warning message telling her to stop.
Faith is stubborn, in spite of the threat. In the last scene, we see the team – Trent, Faith, Ormewood, Angie and Franklin – standing around the investigation board, determined to get those responsible into justice.
Review of Episode
This episode maintains the heavy emotional tone of the season. There are multiple tragic developments including Seth’s death shortly after Amanda’s earlier loss. This series doesn’t hold back, constantly putting its characters under emotional pressure.
Angie’s story is especially painful because her happiness with Seth is brief, and it ends so suddenly and tragically. It makes you wonder if the show is trying too hard to use loss for drama.
The episode also lays the groundwork for the larger story of systemic trafficking with plenty of space for a much bigger conflict later on.
The final scene leaves the door wide open for Season 5 to be about the takedown of a major and deadly criminal organization, with all members of the team now on board with the goal
