The first chapter of 007 First Light is called “The Needle’s Eye” and it sees Bond heading to Malta, where he arrives to start formal training after the events in Iceland. In this chapter you will be reading about melee combat, stealth systems, bluffing, Instinct, field assignments and some key collectibles.
This guide will go over all the main objectives and collectibles in Chapter 1.
Malta,
Skip the recruits at the beginning of the chapter exercising. Check the table with the water bottles but talk to Greenway.
Here’s Postcard #2: Malta for you to collect.
Be sure to grab it before approaching Greenway, as a cutscene will be triggered and you won’t be able to return to this location.
Bond then performs a series of training drills. These add hand-to-hand combat, fighting multiple enemies and flag retrieval challenges. The sequence ends with a sparring match with Monroe.
After completing his training, Bond reports back to MI6, where he has a conversation with M in the elevator before she takes him to the Lab.
Meet & Greet
Once you get into the Lab, head to the back-right corner, close to the Particle Testing area. Intel #1: Workshop Notice, on a desk next to the copier.
Then talk to Selina and Q. Selina is leaning against the wall on the left hand side of the room and Q is sitting at a desk nearby.
Talk to Q, choose your watch colour, and do the hacking tutorial. Then turn around and scan the laptop next to Q’s desk.
This provides you with Intel #2: Recruit Stats.
Take this and take it back to Moneypenny.
A new house
Cressida and Monroe move into a new apartment with Bond. Go into the living room and look across at the mantlepiece opposite Monroe for Intel #3: Family Photo.
Walk through the apartment and talk to Cressida in her room. Choose “Have something for me?” and she will pass the key to Bond’s room.
Get to Bond’s room and put the bag on the bed. Then you can move around the apartment more freely.
Go back to Cressida’s room and check the white gift box with the red ribbon on her bed. This is a count as Intel #4: Dress Box
And the last thing, talk to Cressida about the pictures. Dialogue choice does not affect the outcome.
Steal the Flag: Day Trip
Bond is then sent back to Malta for his first field assignment.
In this section a more open stealth area is introduced. You can choose stealth, combat or a quicker aggressive approach, but making too much noise can bring in reinforcements.
The flag is on top of the roofs. You can go up the ladder on the right side of the arena to get there.
Bond picks up the flag and is interrogated by Greenway. Either Truth or Lies, you can choose, But the story goes the same way.
Night Field Exercise: Capture the Flag
When you take control of Bond again, wait for Cressida to distract the guards. Then duck under the archway.
Go to the hallway to the right of Monroe and draw the nearby guard to you. This section introduces Bluffing, which allows Bond to talk his way out of some sticky situations.
You can grab an easy Instinct point here by bluffing the guard first, then turning around and taking him down when he isn’t looking.
When you get outside on the balcony, look down at the guards below. Jump off the platform on the right and do an Air Takedown to earn another Instinct point.
Then trick the guards nearby and get past them. Check the stone wall next to the guards around the generator for the Keys to the Compound Basement.
Don’t go into the building just yet. Instead, walk around the left side of the complex and you will find the stairs going down towards the pier.
Take the basement keys and open the double doors next to the stairwell. Inside you can fight the guards or bluff your way past them.
Take Card #2: 7 of Roses from the boxes at the far end of the basement.
Capture the Flag
Head back to the main arena and go through the hole in the wall behind the group of guards next to the basement key. You can kick down the doors, or crawl through the gap.
There aren’t many guards inside, so stealth takedowns are a good option. It’s good to build more Instinct here because a bigger group is waiting near the stairwell later.
Go through the portals and keep going up. The flag is on top of the building, beyond the bigger enemy group.
Monroe gets into trouble. Monroe, collected, gets into trouble, beginning the next escape sequence.
Escape Sequence
After the cutscene, climb the ladder, and follow the zipline to the pier.
Approach Cressida on the boat, then head across the water to where Monroe is.
Watch the end cutscene to complete the mission. This unlocks the From Malta with Love achievement and finishes Chapter 1 of 007 First Light.
