Ben Reilly Gets to the End of His Rope
Spider-Noir Season 1 Episode 7 picks up with Cat tortured by the guilt of betraying Ben. Silver and his men return to The Alcove after their failed visit to Faber’s lab. Cat is surprised that they found nothing useful there.
Frustrated, Silvermane sends his three augmented men into the city with one simple message: Remind Mayor Morris who really runs things.
Flint and Leyden don’t waste any time. They raid one of Mayor Morris’ offices and threaten the staff until they tell them where his money is kept. They hand over the cash to the mayor and leave him humiliated and furious.
Janet Knew Something Was Wrong
Cat goes to Ben’s office and tells Janet that Ben never came. Janet realizes immediately that Ben has not only stood Cat up. That’s not right. Cat leaves and she phones Robbie for help. Janet tells her to phone her if Ben comes back.
Meanwhile Mayor Morris has no money. Not even the police chief can help him this time and tells him to call The Spider.
Ben Goes Off
Ben is found drinking in a bar, devastated by Cat’s betrayal. His pain turns to anger when a group of men come in and talk about Flint and Leyden throwing stolen money into the streets while supporting Hudson, Morris’ political rival.
The men start to insult The Spider and Ben snaps. He leaves, puts on the mask and comes back as The Spider. He knocks the men down and webs them up, but the scene shows that Ben is no longer acting solely out of justice. Now he’s got a bruised ego to work with.
Robbie finds him and drags him away. Ben confesses that he wants to take the antidote. Being The Spider used to give him purpose, but now it just feels like a burden. Robbie protests that Flint and Lonnie are dying and might need the antidote more than he does.
Janet’s no stranger to Ben’s secret
Back at the office, Ben lets slip to Janet that he is The Spider. But Janet isn’t surprised. She knew already. A quick montage of Ben drunkenly confessing his secret to her many times before.
Then Ben splits the antidote into a few syringes. He means to cure the others first, and then take one himself. He says there’s no power, there’s no responsibility to Janet.
Second Chance for Lonnie
Word arrives that Silvermane’s goons are hitting a police warehouse in Harlem. Ben gets dressed again and goes after Lonnie. In the midst of the fight, Ben drops one of the syringes, but Robbie is able to inject Lonnie with it.
Lonnie’s body goes back to normal and he finally knows the truth. He leaves with Robbie and The Spider. In the chaos, Ben is badly wounded.
Later, while Ben is resting at Robbie’s house, Lonnie decides to leave and start over somewhere far away with his mother.
The Spider and Silvermane
At the end of the episode, Silvermane and Mayor Morris both know that The Spider has an antidote. Each of them orders their people to find Ben Reilly, leading to a deadly confrontation in the finale.
Review of Episode
Following a more contained last chapter, the story picks back up in Spider-Noir Season 1 Episode 7. It’s a good episode because it has action and character drama and moral conflict without losing steam.
The best part of the episode is Ben’s emotional state. His reaction to Cat’s betrayal feels raw, and the bar fight is one of the season’s standout scenes. It is exciting, stylish and exposing because it shows how close Ben is to recklessness.
Another major highlight is the exchange between Ben and Robbie. No one else challenges Ben the way Robbie does, forcing him to think beyond his own pain. Their exchange lends an emotional punch to the episode and reminds us that heroism isn’t about feeling good. It’s about doing the right thing, even when it hurts.
Flint’s scene with Cat also rounds out his character. Even if the show could have taken more time to develop him and Lonnie, his jealousy and heartbreak elevate him above just another villain.
The ending makes good use of its split focus, showing both Silvermane and Mayor Morris turning their attention to The Spider. It sets up real tension for the finale, and makes Episode 7 feel like a proper penultimate chapter.
Overall “Nobody’s Hero” is one of the stronger episodes of Spider-Noir Season 1. There’s some good action, some good character moments, and enough emotional conflict to make the upcoming finale feel important.
