Pip, Ravi and Connor Back to the Manor
In A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season two episode five, Pip and Ravi are back in the abandoned manor where they first found the knife. Pip is not quite sure but she is wondering if Jamie might still be hiding somewhere inside.
Connor arrives and the three of them start searching the building for anything that might explain Jamie’s disappearance. Instead of finding Jamie they find little packets that look like drugs. They are about to investigate when they hear voices and quickly hide.
Pip takes the knife out as they listen to Howie talking to another man about money. As the stranger walks away, the trio attempts to follow his car. Pip becomes determined to pursue him, but Connor is injured attempting to escape the manor and Ravi forces her to desist. Ravi tells Pip she is losing her grip while Connor blames Jamie for all the chaos around them.
Pip begins to think that maybe the mystery man was Luke, Nat’s boyfriend.
Max is acquitted
The following day Pip visits Luke’s house and asks Nat what he is like. She asks whether Luke is threatening her, but Nat doesn’t explain and tells Pip to keep out of it.
Meanwhile, Ravi has an awkward run-in with Max in the courthouse bathroom. Max says Sal and Ravi is immediately angry. Shortly thereafter, Max’s lawyer announces the jury has reached a verdict.
Court finds Max not guilty of all charges. Ravi rings Pip with the news and she is completely shaken.
Pip tells Nat what happened but only after a panic attack. Becca also breaks down in prison after hearing the verdict and Nat is devastated.
The Verdict Sends Pip Spiraling
School Pip sees a threatening note in her locker. She confronts Robin and Lauren but Robin is still defending Max. Pip, in a fit of rage, attacks Robin, choking him momentarily while imagining that he is Max.
Back at home, her emotional state deteriorates when her parents try to talk to her. Pip does not open up, he lashes out. Ravi also tries to help and encourages her to talk to her friends, especially Cara, but Pip pushes him away.
Later, Connor calls Pip to tell him that a body has been found nearby. Her parents have grounded her, but Pip sneaks out of the house.
Charlie helps her think through everything that has happened. Outside. Don tells her to remember what’s really important and not to get wrapped up in the case.
Pip reveals Max online
At the end of the verdict, Max asks his mom to join the family for a celebratory restaurant dinner. Later, he posts a picture online that sends Pip over the edge.
In retaliation, Pip posts the recorded phone call Max made where he admitted to assaulting Becca. She also defaces the Hastings’ house with the words Max is a rapist.
They come home to find the damage, when Max and his family return. Robin also informs Max that the recording has been leaked on the Internet.
Pip and Ravi Finally Confess Their Feelings
Later, Pip meets Ravi and apologizes for the way she treated him. She says she’s tired of pretending she’s okay when everything around her seems broken.
Pip confesses his love for Ravi in a moment of passion. Pip did not see, says Ravi, when he proposed to his feelings in his memorial speech. They kiss and end up sleeping in Pip’s car together that night.
Still Missing by Jamie
The next morning Connor calls Pip with news that’s important. The body that was discovered is not Jamie’s. Pip and Ravi are relieved, and they go back to Luke’s house and continue their investigation.
Nat announces she is moving out. She also tells them that Jamie tried to prevent Max from raping her at the party. Nat said Jamie really wanted to help her, so it doesn’t seem likely that he would purposely avoid testifying.
Nat also reveals that Luke was not home the night Jamie went missing and that he has been talking to Layla.
Luke Finds Big Clue
Pip and Ravi ask Luke about Jamie. They offer him the £900 Jamie owed him in return for a tip-off. Eventually Luke confesses to meeting Jamie on the night of the memorial, believing Jamie was Layla.
Luke remembers Jamie saying three strange words. Child, brown, sick.
Pip realizes that Jamie was actually talking about Child Brunswick. Scott Brunswick was a serial killer who used his son, Child Brunswick, to lure kids away and then abduct and kill them, she explains. Scott was later killed in prison, his son would be about 29 years old today.
Pip and Ravi discover the real Layla has been searching for Child Brunswick. This is why she contacted Dan, Mr. Clark, Luke and Jamie after believing that Jamie was also 29.
Is Stanley a Brunswicker?
Pip and Ravi tell Connor their theory. They suspect Jamie may have been helping Layla find Child Brunswick. If they’re going to find Jamie, they need to find the son of the killer.
The three of them suspect Howie knows the truth. By the episode’s end, Pip deduces that Stanley might be the person they have been looking for.
Episode Analysis
Episode 5 is definitely one of the best chapters so far this season. The mystery finally starts to heat up, and the reveal of Child Brunswick takes the story down a much darker and disturbing path.
Stanley has been suspicious for some time, but this episode suggests a tragic reason for his odd behavior. If he really is linked to Scott Brunswick, then his past is much more complicated than it seemed at first.
The Max storyline is also frustrating in the right sort of way. It’s hard to watch his not guilty verdict, not least because the show makes it clear how much damage he’s done. It’s reckless of Pip to put the recording online but it also comes from a place of anger, trauma and powerlessness.
The episode also delivers a much needed emotional breakthrough for Pip and Ravi. It’s been a rocky relationship all season, but their confession scene feels earned and real.
There is just one episode left and the biggest question is how Jamie’s disappearance ties in with Layla, Child Brunswick and Stanley. Episode 5 sets up a tense finale, and the show has some big answers it needs to deliver now
