Dark Winds – Season 4 Episode 7 Recap & Review

In Episode 7 of Dark Winds Season 4, Emma is questioned by the police, which shows that the killer is sending a clear message. Joe is getting more and more worried about Irene because she hasn’t been seen in a while and he knows time is running out.

Joe is determined to find Irene before it’s too late, so he hires Special Agent Shaw to help him out of the blue. Emma tells him to do something instead of just sitting around, especially since Billie is in danger. Even though things are urgent, there is still tension between Joe and Jim Chee, which makes things even more difficult.

At the same time, Irene focuses on Billie, who is on the run and looking for a place to stay at her mother’s house. Their emotional reunion doesn’t last long because Irene finds her right away. Billie thinks about leaving after making up with her mother, but she is talked into staying the night.

Billie’s mom leaves for work the next morning, and Irene shows up. Billie barely gets away by hiding in the basement just as Joe, Bernadette, and Shaw show up. Irene sees them, attacks Shaw, and is able to kidnap Billie before running away. Joe gets there too late to stop her.

Joe goes to prison to see Dominic McNair in a last-ditch effort to make a deal to save Billie and get rid of Irene. He subtly threatens McNair, knowing that he will soon be free, but McNair won’t help him and sends him away.

Irene’s mental health continues to get worse, and it reaches a shocking low point when she runs over Gunthar, which shows how unstable she is.

Bernadette meets with Jim Chee at the Indian Health Center, and he finally talks about his past. He talks about how guilty he feels about his mother’s death from cancer and how he thinks he didn’t do enough for her. He is worried that these feelings that he hasn’t dealt with yet could hurt his relationship with Bernadette. She comforts him and offers to help him as he opens up.

The investigation takes a turn when Bernadette finds out where Leroy Gorman, who has been living as Phillip Grayson, is. He has been hiding on the reservation under a fake name that FBI agent Upchurch gave him to keep him safe until he can testify against McNair.

But Upchurch is dead now, which puts Leroy in a lot of danger. Joe and the team try to move him, but Leroy seems hesitant and evasive, which makes them suspicious.

Joe quickly figures out that something is wrong, but it’s too late. Irene sneaks up on him from behind and knocks him out. The truth comes out: the real Leroy Gorman is dead, and the man pretending to be him is a fake meant to mess with the trial and make sure McNair doesn’t go to jail.

The episode ends on a dark note, with Joe locked in the trunk of Irene’s car and not knowing what will happen to him.

The Review of the Episode

Episode 7 is a tense and well-written chapter in which Irene always stays one step ahead. It looks like the supposed chase across the city was a planned distraction to buy time before McNair’s trial, which is turning out to be a key moment in the story.

The twist with Leroy Gorman is well done and adds an element of mystery that the show has been hiding until now. Now that Joe is caught, the stakes are higher than ever.

This is when Jim Chee and Bernadette need to step up, because they might be the only ones who can save Joe. At the same time, Irene’s behavior is getting more and more unstable, which makes things even more tense.

The episode ends with a big cliffhanger that makes the next one seem like it will be very exciting. The start of season 4 shows Emma being questioned by the police, which makes it clear that the killer is sending a message on purpose.
