In the second episode of Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Jinx is at the gym working out when someone comes to check on him. He says he’s fine, but it’s clear that he’s hiding something.
Margo and her new baby are now free to leave the hospital. Shayanne picks them up, but she doesn’t seem to want to hold baby Bodhi, which makes her seem uncomfortable. Margo thinks about how strange it is that she is trusted to raise a child on the way home. Shayanne says that being a mother is as easy as riding a bike.
Margo says she had a very vivid dream about her father being there when she gave birth, but Shayanne quickly reminds her that it wasn’t real. Shayanne leaves as soon as they get home, and Margo’s roommates greet her. They act weird around the baby; they stand around, not knowing what to do, and then scatter when Margo starts to breastfeed.
Margo gets more and more worried over the next few days because Bodhi won’t stop crying. The doctor says he has colic but is otherwise healthy. Even though they were told everything would be okay, the constant crying wears everyone down. Margo and her roommates are both tired from not getting enough sleep, and as basic needs like diapers run low, the financial strain of being a mother starts to show.
Margo keeps in touch with Becca through it all, talking about the good and bad parts of being a new mom. She wonders if she’s failing and why no one is honest about how hard this stage can be. She has a hard time keeping it together because of the physical pain, mood swings, and loneliness. Her roommates are getting more and more angry about the noise all the time.
Margo writes in her journal to try to make sense of things. Her roommates ask her to take Bodhi outside one night so they can get some sleep before their biochemistry test. Margo calls Shayanne because she feels overwhelmed. Shayanne tells her to stay strong for her child because she has no other choice. Margo then asks Shayanne if she can watch the kids so she can go back to work.
In another part of the story, Jinx gets out of rehab and finally gets his phone back. He reads Margo’s messages and rushes home, trading one of his championship belts for a motorcycle to get there faster.
That night, Margo drops Bodhi off with Shayanne, who agrees to watch him. Margo asks about Jinx, worried because he hasn’t answered. Shayanne tells her to think about giving Kenny a chance instead. Margo is willing to meet him, but she is upset that her mother hasn’t told Kenny about the baby. She says that any meeting must happen after the truth comes out.
Margo goes to work and does a good job, but her progress doesn’t last long. Shayanne comes with Bodhi, feeling overwhelmed and unsure of her abilities as a mother. She jokes that the baby’s crying all the time makes her feel like she’s being judged. Margo realizes that her mother has the same fears as she does in a rare moment of connection. They laugh it off and tell each other that they will be fine.
Margo is shocked when her boss fires her after her shift, saying that she is worried about her ability to balance work and taking care of her children. She tells Margo to think about doing writing work from home instead. Margo is sad and goes home, only to find out that two of her roommates are moving out. This means that she and Susie will have to pay more rent.
The next day, Margo goes to school and tells Mark she needs $3,000 to help pay for childcare and other living costs. He says he doesn’t have the money, but Margo makes it clear that she thinks he should pay.
Later, Margo has dinner with Shayanne and Kenny. Kenny is kind and doesn’t judge Margo, which is surprising. He even praises her for taking responsibility. While Margo is eating dinner, Elizabeth, Mark’s mother, calls and wants to meet with her. She also hints that Margo tried to blackmail her son.
Kenny surprises Shayanne by asking her to marry him at the end of the night.
Margo tries to get rid of her swollen breasts by using a cabbage remedy at home. Susie tells Margo that she is a cosplayer and suggests that she look into it as a possible job.
When Jinx finally shows up at Margo’s place, the episode ends on a dramatic note that leaves her speechless.
Review of the Episode
This episode goes deeper into the hard truths of being a new mother. The show doesn’t make the experience seem perfect; instead, it shows how tiring and emotionally draining it is. Margo’s journey shows the pain, doubt, and loneliness that people often don’t talk about.
The series shows how people of all ages face the same problems through the stories of Margo and Shayanne. It shows that feeling unsure and unsafe is part of life at any age.
The episode also makes it clear that there is a class divide. Mark’s privileged background protects him from being held responsible, and his family uses their power to keep him safe. This imbalance highlights one of the show’s main conflicts, as Margo has to deal with the effects mostly on her own.
