The Boys continues to be one of Amazon Prime Video’s biggest original series, blending superhero action with sharp satire, political commentary, and a lot of shocking twists. After years of success, the series returned for its fifth season in April 2026, ushering fans back into its violent and unpredictable world.
As viewers make their way through Season 5, many are asking the same question: will The Boys be back for Season 6?
This is what we know so far.
What’s The Boys Season 5 Storyline?
Season 5 is set one year after the end of the last season. Now Annie January and her vigilante group, the Starlighters, are being labeled terrorists, and she’s fighting from the shadows.
Meanwhile, Billy Butcher is hell-bent on creating a deadly virus that could kill every supe including Homelander. However, his mission becomes more urgent when Homelander orders the execution of MM, Frenchie, and Hughie, who are in internment camps.
Meanwhile, Homelander begins his search for V1, the original Compound V. If he gets it he could be permanently immortal which would make Butcher’s virus totally useless.
Homelander teams up with his father and former enemy Soldier Boy to protect his plans, despite their violent past.
Season 5 continues the themes of power, corruption, media manipulation, revenge and unchecked capitalism, all while delivering the brutal action and unpredictable storytelling that fans have come to expect from the series.
Will there be a season 6 of The Boys?
As of October 2023, Amazon Prime Video has not renewed The Boys for a sixth season.
In fact, it had already been confirmed that Season 5 would be the last season of the series. Show creator Eric Kripke has long said he saw The Boys as a five-season story, giving the series a planned ending rather than dragging it out forever.
Amazon typically looks at things like viewership, completion rates, audience retention, critical reception, and production costs when deciding whether or not to renew a series, but The Boys looks like it’s ending on purpose.
So as of now, there are no expectations of Season 6 happening.
Why Is The Boys Ending At Season 5?
Eric Kripke knew the story wasn’t going to last forever, and rather than let it overstay its welcome, he decided to end it on his own terms.
Kripke had a similar creative process with Supernatural, where he had originally had a limited story arc planned. His goal with The Boys was always to tell a complete five-season story arc, with a clear beginning, middle and end.
That means we’re supposed to be wrapping up the main storyline in Season 5.
The Boys Universe isn’t really over.
While The Boys might be wrapping up, the franchise as a whole is nowhere near finished.
Amazon is growing the universe, with a number of spin-offs in the works.
Vought Rising Officially On The Move
The confirmed next spin-off is called Vought Rising and is a prequel series that explores the beginnings of Vought and some of the first superheroes.
The series will include:
Jensen Ackles playing Soldier Boy
Stormfront as Aya Cash
Paul Grellong will be showrunner, with Eric Kripke continuing as an executive producer.
Production is expected to have wrapped in March 2026, with a tentative release scheduled for 2027.
Boys Mexico What About The
Another spin-off, called The Boys: Mexico, is also in development.
Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are co-producing the project and it is set to happen after the events of Season 5.
The series hasn’t been picked up yet, but Kripke is hopeful for its future.
What Do We Know About The Boys Season 6?
“There are no plans for a Season 6 of The Boys at this time.
With Season 5 confirmed to be the final chapter, it looks like the main series is coming to a definitive end. Future stories in this universe will most likely be in the form of spin-offs, rather than a straight to the point sixth season.
Of course, if Amazon or the creators announce any big changes, we’ll update this page with the latest info.
