The musical biopic Michael in 2026 takes a look at the life and rise of the legendary singer Michael Jackson, also known as the King of Pop. Around the same time he is diagnosed with vitiligo, a skin condition that causes loss of pigmentation. The film shows this as a turning point , physically and emotionally , which further strains his relationship with his father . With advice from his close friend and bodyguard Bill Bray, Michael finally decides to leave and take control of his life.
The Making of a Thrill
In 1981 Michael took a major step toward independence, firing Joseph as his manager with the help of his attorney, John Branca. He starts work on new music, including what will become the landmark album Thriller.

The Pepsi Event
In 1984, a Jackson 5 reunion tour is organized, with promoter Don King and Joseph Jackson involved. Michael stars in a commercial for Pepsi as part of his advertising campaign. A technical problem while shooting causes his hair to catch fire, resulting in severe burns and long-term physical damage.
Michael and his people sued Pepsi and eventually settled for $1.5 million. In a defining act of generosity, Michael donated the entire amount to the burn center that treated him.
The End and What It Means
Michael recovers and joins his brothers on the reunion tour but declares at the final show that the Jackson 5 will never perform together again. This is a clean break from his father’s influence, and his full transition into a solo artist.
The film then cuts to 1988, as Michael performs at Wembley Stadium during his Bad tour. The ending hints at a possible sequel, implying his story isn’t over.

The film is thus a sleek, streamlined retelling of Michael Jackson’s story. If you want a more nuanced and complete portrayal, the ending may seem a bit flat. Michael does a great job with some strong performances and impressive musical sequences, but he falls short of a fully comprehensive look at one of the most influential figures in music history.
