In Reborn Rookie episode 2, the body-swap drama gets even more unpredictable as Yong-ho has a hard time adjusting to life in Jun-hyeon’s body. While recovering from the shocking accident that changed everything, he discovers new enemies, hidden family secrets and a dangerous conspiracy happening within Choiseong Group.# Everything Changes With Bang-geul’s Secret Arrival
Yong-ho is getting used to his new life when another surprise awaits him, Bang-geul suddenly appears in South Korea. While living in Jun-hyeon’s body, Yong-ho is surprised to find out that his daughter has been secretly working at Choiseong without the Kang family’s knowledge.
Before he is able to digest the revelation, Jae-gyeong and Jae-seong arrive and continue their efforts to implicate Yong-ho in the recent hit-and-run accident. Meanwhile, Bang-geul overhears a conversation that reveals a disturbing truth – the twins themselves may have been responsible for the incident.# Choiseong Group in the Eye of the Public Storm
Bang-geul quietly spreads the news of the twins’ involvement in the accident through Choiseong’s internal communication systems, determined to expose the truth. The rumors spread quickly outside the company, causing public outrage and growing protests.
The criticism mounts and Choiseong’s reputation starts to fall apart. Investors lose faith and the company’s stock price crashes. The twins face serious accusations. Instead of taking responsibility, they choose Yong-ho as the scapegoat.# Yong-ho’s Sacrifice is Painful
The twins keep telling Jun-hyeon to take their side and even kidnap him to make him cooperate. But Yong-ho is not scared.
When the twins hold a press conference, Yong-ho appears and says something shocking. As Jun-hyeon, he openly confesses that it was Yong-ho who caused the accident.
Everyone is taken aback at this admission.
It is damaging his own reputation but Yong-ho chooses to sacrifice his public image to buy time and protect his larger plans. The twins are quick to seize the moment, playing themselves off as innocent victims, offering compensation and public apologies.# A Spooky Discovery at the Hospital
The scandal is playing out in the media, but the hospital has another crisis on its hands.
Jae-gyeong’s husband, Suk-do, tries to keep Yong-ho unconscious with the use of sedatives. Things get darker still when the twins visit their father’s hospital room and think about killing him for good.
As Jae-gyeong attempts to suffocate Yong-ho’s body with a pillow, Jun-hyeon, whose soul has now taken over that body, manages to trigger an emergency alarm. The would-be killers had to run.
Watching the terrifying scene unfold, Yong-ho finally sees the lengths his own children are willing to go to gain power and control.## A Choiseong Intern: Starting Over
Yong-ho makes an unexpected move after getting a blank check that Jun-hyeon had prepared before the accident. But instead of money he asks for a position at Choiseong Group.
The twins agree eagerly, thinking Jun-hyeon is no real threat.
This decision gives Yong-ho the perfect opportunity to go back to the company from the inside and look into the corruption surrounding his family.
His first day as an intern is definitely glamorous. He is forced to work with younger staff who do not know how to use basic office technology, or understand the modern workplace. The former chairman has a special Excel spreadsheet problem that’s frustrating.# Bang-geul Becomes His Unexpected Partner
Bang-geul offers to train Jun-hyeon at work. The exchanges soon become some of the most entertaining of the episode.
Unaware that she is actually speaking to her father, Bang-geul treats him like an ordinary intern, often putting him in his place when he acts suspiciously. Their arguments are funny, but underneath there is a hint of a stronger emotional connection forming.
Yong-ho learns more about Bang-geul’s performance within the company, and he discovers that she is well respected by her colleagues. He’s proud of this knowledge, but it also reveals how little he really knew about her life.# Yong-ho Starts Fighting Back
Another big turn in the episode is when Yong-ho has access to his secret assets and begins rebuilding his influence.
He asks the hospital worker Song Gyeong-seon to watch his physical health and report any suspicious activity involving Suk-do. He also sends Sang-jae a secret message, setting larger plans into motion.
Later he finds out during an important business presentation that three companies are secretly siphoning off Choiseong’s funds. The disclosure immediately alarms Jae-seong, as those businesses are linked to his secret slush-fund operation.
The twins realize for the first time that the harmless seeming intern may be much more dangerous than they ever expected.# Sang-jae Shakes Up the Power Balance
The biggest development happens in a board meeting.
Sang-jae announces that he will serve as acting CEO, after following instructions left behind by Yong-ho. He also announced a new policy that the next boss of the company would be picked on merit, not family status.
The announcement completely reverses the power balance in Choiseong.
The board is still in shock from the shocking news, when Jun-hyeon storms into the meeting room and says that he is also qualified to be a candidate for the position as the CEO.
The episode ends with the battle for control of Choiseong officially on.# Episode 2 – Recap
Reborn Rookie Episode 2 – Still all about the chaos The body-swap plot is a mash-up of comedy, corporate intrigue, family drama and revenge, sometimes veering wildly from scene to scene. The story does feel a bit bloated with twists and subplots at times, but the episode does a good job of keeping things moving.
Lee Jun-young is still one of the show’s biggest assets. His comic and poignant performance of a senior chairman in a young man’s body is just right. One of the funniest parts of the episode is the clash of Yong-ho’s old school mentality with modern office culture.
The relationship between Yong-ho and Bang-geul developing is also becoming one of the most interesting aspects of the story. She has no clue Jun-hyeon is actually her father, so every interaction has an emotional element of potential powerful developments later in the season.
Reborn Rookie has some work to do in finding a clear direction, but Episode 2 raises the stakes considerably and sets up a fun corporate revenge battle in the episodes to come.
