RJ Decker – Season 1 Episode 2 Recap & Review

Episode 2 opens with a disturbing scene where police raid a house looking for suspected drug activity, interrupting a young boy tending to his Venus flytraps. Instead they find something far worse, a dismembered body and bags of minced up human remains. The shocking discovery immediately establishes the tone for a darker, more intense case.
RJ Takes on Marcus’s Case
The next morning RJ is training with Darius, but his attention is distracted by Catherine who has found the keys to the cabinet. RJ also talks about meeting Wish, who quickly hires him to help Marcus, the son of an old acquaintance of RJ’s from his criminal past.
RJ visits Marcus in prison and finds out that Clem Crayshaw hired Marcus to take care of Venus flytraps. They mostly communicated on Snapchat and Marcus says he had no idea the human remains were in a locked freezer. He thought he was just feeding the plants mealworms.
A Clem Crayshaw Mystery
Maybe Clem killed a “John Doe” and used the plants and the freezer to get rid of the body, Marcus thinks. He recalls seeing missing body parts, including the head, buttocks and biceps, when police forced him to look inside the freezer. Desperate to return to Kelly-Lynn, Marcus asks RJ to track down Clem and clear his name.
Following the clues Back in the police station RJ tries to milk info from Mel but it’s no use. In the meantime, Wish goes to see Kelly-Lynn and learns of the life and death of Waylon, which adds emotional weight to the story.
RJ finds Clem’s ex-wife, who tells him that Clem had unique tattoos on his buttocks and biceps, facts that will become important later. Marcus’s case becomes even more complicated when RJ begins to suspect that Clem himself might be the victim.
Getting to Know Clem Better
RJ continues his investigation by speaking with a florist named Gary, who has worked with Clem on occasion, but doesn’t offer much in the way of useful information. Breakthrough when Emilia reveals the police have identified the victim as Clem, and found a history of conflict between Clem and his brother-in-law, Brody.
The Venusian Health Link
RJ visits a strip club, where he talks to Brody, who reveals that Clem had been working for a company called Venusian Health. Clem believed the company’s treatments could cure cancer, but tension mounted with the diagnosis of Brody’s wife Lacey. After she died, Clem started to doubt the company and said she would tell everyone about them.
Facing Remington Fácil
Thanks to Catherine, RJ is able to secure an interview with the CEO of Venusian Health, Remington. Soon the conversation becomes tense as RJ asks him questions about suspicious activities, like potentially falsified reports and a break-in. Remington becomes defensive and cuts the interview short, which only makes people more suspicious.
Marcus’s Plea Deal & RJ’s Breakthrough
Meanwhile, Marcus accepts a plea deal believing it is his only chance for a future. But he says when talking to RJ it took exactly 10.2 pounds of food to feed the plants every time.
And this detail brings a realization: Clem’s body was never discovered. … RJ figures some of the remains are still missing, so he has a hunch about Remington.
The Truth Comes Out RJ calls Mel and they bring in Remington to interrogate. It soon becomes clear that Remington had used chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide and sulfuric acid to dispose of Clem’s remains. Clem’s teeth and a piece of the bullet are found in the company’s drainage system and he is convicted of guilt. At last Marcus is free.
Final Moments
Marcus prepares for his release party. Wish tells Kelly-Lynn to leave town, thinking she’s not right for him. She confesses she never was pregnant, adding another piece of the deception puzzle to the episode.
Emilia makes a brief appearance at the party, but her conflict with RJ is still unresolved. Their relationship is still complicated by external pressures and personal uncertainty.
Episode Discussion
This episode leans into the graphic storytelling with a case that is both disturbing and compelling. RJ Decker is still learning to walk as a crime procedural, but it has interesting mysteries and compelling character dynamics.
That said, some things are pushing it a little. Especially with his background, it seems unlikely that RJ would be able to get into police investigations and interrogation spaces. His swift development into a competent investigator is exciting, but does strain the show’s credibility at times.
Overall, Episode 2 is engrossing and fast-paced, but further episodes would do well to ground RJ’s role in more believable situations.
