Running Point – Season 2 Episode 1 “New Coach Who Dis” Recap & Review

The first episode of Running Point Season 2 starts right after the finals, when Cam shows up at the office out of the blue. Isla is shocked right away because he is still supposed to be in rehab. She wonders if he has come back to take back his job as President, but Cam quickly says no. He says he doesn’t want to go back to his old job, especially since the board wouldn’t support it.
Cam, on the other hand, acts like he’s changed and only wants to help Isla in a small way. His siblings are happy to see him, and for a short time, the family feels like they are all together again.
Isla is still having trouble with her feelings after kissing Jay. She can’t stop thinking about him, and she even starts having vivid dreams about him. Lev, her fiancé, has no idea that she is having problems inside and thinks everything is fine.
As Cam gets used to things, he takes the lead in helping the team with one of its biggest problems: finding a new coach. He sets up a meeting with Danny, one of the most sought-after coaches, without asking Isla first. Isla has to go to the interview.
Danny looks great on paper. He is confident, experienced, and charming. He leaves a strong impression even in person. Isla, on the other hand, feels like something is missing. Even though he has the right skills, he doesn’t think he’s a good fit for the team.
In another part of the office, things get tense when Ali complains about Cam using her space. Isla says she will take care of the problem and also agrees to look into Ali’s request for a raise, but she puts off giving a final answer.
Marcus tells the players in the locker room to go to his wife’s charity event. Dyson is unsure because of money issues, but Marcus tells him that just being there is enough. He even says he will take Dyson shopping for the right clothes.
Cam introduces Leroy, his sober friend, over the weekend. Isla also starts to doubt Cam’s reasons for doing things. She decides to meet Norm, Jay’s mentor, in the hopes that he can help her. But the interview with Norm doesn’t go well, so the team starts to lean toward hiring Danny again.
Travis then introduces his girlfriend Zoe, who quickly hits it off with Dyson. When they run into each other again while shopping with Marcus, their chemistry starts to show. Marcus tells Dyson to stay away from him because it could cause trouble with Travis.
Isla goes back to see Norm alone after his interview didn’t go well. This time, he talks about his dead wife and gives a full plan for the Waves. Isla changes her mind about him after he is honest and shows her what he can do. She ends up hiring him as her new coach.
She tells the press about the decision, which makes Cam angry. He thought Danny would be picked because it would make him look good. Cam feels like he’s being undermined, so he goes off by himself and gets high with Leroy.
In another place, Dyson’s agent asks him how happy he is with his current contract. Isla finds out soon after that Dyson might be waiting for a better deal related to Sean’s show. This means that the team needs to have a meeting right away to talk about the problem.
Ali, on the other hand, is unhappy that Isla hasn’t kept her word about her raise and office problems yet. She feels more and more ignored, even though she was told it was a top priority.
Review of the Episode
Isla is immediately on edge when Cam comes back because she is still trying to prove her authority in the group. He says he’s stepping back, but his actions show that he still thinks he’s the right leader. He seems to be quietly putting himself in a position to take back control, but Isla unknowingly messes up his plans by picking Norm over Danny.
Even though Danny is more charming right away, Norm ends up being the better choice because he is more grounded and thoughtful. This choice shows that Isla is becoming more confident as a leader, even when it goes against what people expect.
The episode also keeps going with the unresolved tension between Isla and Jay. Isla is clearly having trouble with her feelings, even though she is engaged to Lev. Her emotional conflict, especially the romantic dreams about Jay, shows that she hasn’t fully figured out what she wants. She needs to be honest about these feelings before she can go through with her engagement.
