The Scarecrow has targeted elite criminal profiler Kang Tae-ju. He thought the case was long buried, but is pulled back in. DNA evidence links an incarcerated serial killer to a string of unsolved murders, and Tae-ju is called back in to investigate. But the suspect claims he is innocent and dares Tae-ju to prove him wrong.
Tae-ju returns to his hometown and reopens the case of the infamous “Scarecrow” killings from decades ago. This forces him to face painful memories and unresolved issues from his past. He is assigned to work with prosecutor Cha Si-yeong, a former adversary with political ambitions of her own and a complex past with him, as they investigate.
As the case unfolds, the truth is increasingly convoluted and much more disturbing than anticipated.
