Man on Fire – Season 1 Episode 7 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Man on Fire episode 7 recap: He finally makes it clear that he knows how Tappen works. Flashbacks reveal that Tappen has been using his connections with Carmo to increase his own power and earn a more favorable position. But Tappen has also wrapped himself in a carefully crafted backup plan. He secretly recorded his conversations with Carmo and Soares, collecting enough to bring down both. “Anything that happens to him, all that information will automatically go to law enforcement and the press, and that will be their doom.
This means that even if Creasy can kill Tappen the dead man’s switch will still be triggered.
At the same time Creasy helps to save Ferraz’s family, which enrages Soares. In revenge, Soares kills Ferraz and places Tappen under heavy guard, making it almost impossible for Creasy to get to the CIA agent.
Why Creasy Remains at Poe’s Side
At first, Creasy is planning to die. His plan is simple, surrender himself, get close to Tappen and kill him from the inside. Melo is strongly opposed to the plan, telling him it’s merely a suicide mission.
Guilt hangs heavy on Creasy. He blames himself for putting Rayburn in the cross-hairs, and for the death of his team. He tells him that he is not responsible for what happened, and that Poe can’t afford to lose him, too.
The truth is clearer still when Poe finally gains access to her father’s laptop. She goes through old family photos and the painful memories come flooding back. Creasy is there for her in one of her most vulnerable moments, promising she won’t be facing everything alone.
Poe bitterly says she is alone. Creasy makes it clear that he is staying with her no matter what happens.
He proves it at the end of the episode by standing by her at the Rayburn family funeral.
How does Creasy activate the dead man’s switch?
Creasy and the team set an elaborate trap to take down Tappen.
They produce a fake tape, which Ivan’s associate Osip secretly poisons with a mild, non-lethal poison. As a set-up, Melo takes the tape and puts it in a safe deposit box.
The team sets up a phony robbery of one of Ivan’s father’s properties, owned through a shell company.
The plan nearly fails when a neighbour spots Creasy and calls the police. As the frantic getaway continues, Vico makes a surprising decision, allowing himself to be arrested to keep the mission going.
Tappen interrogates Vico, who claims he was hired to steal a key to a safe deposit box that holds evidence that Carmo coerced Ferraz to execute the bombing.
Tappen and Soares quickly get the tape and play it in a secure room.
Creasy is lying on the tape, saying that the tape has been contaminated with a deadly toxin.
As the two men start experiencing minor symptoms, panic sets in. They believe they have been poisoned and immediately order an evacuation.
Vico is able to get away in the chaos.
Tappen and Soares are rushed to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation . At this point , the second phase of Creasy ’ s plan begins .
How does Creasy ultimately kill Tappen?
Poe suddenly appears at the hospital then disappears with Ivan. Tappen knows how important she is so he sends most of his men after her.
Creasy is on the move, with much less security around Tappen and Soares.
But Tappen quickly realizes he has been played and orders a complete lockdown.
This time reinforcements arrive armed and a violent gun battle ensues. Vico, Livro, and Melo are surrounded as Ivan and Poe join them.
Meanwhile Creasy finds Tappen and pins him down, all by himself.
Poe’s voice comes through his earpiece just as Creasy is about to kill him, triggering one of his episodes. Tappen takes advantage of the situation and almost strangles him to death.
But Creasy regains control at the last moment, fights back and kills Tappen.
How Does the Team Get Out?
Creasy appears with a Molotov cocktail just outside as the group is about to be overrun by police forces.
He uses it to wreak havoc, taking out a number of officers and giving the team a way out.
But the danger was not over.
Soares takes Poe hostage, reminding him that the dead man’s switch has already been thrown and he’s got nothing left to lose.
Using her self-defense training, Poe frees herself and a fight over the weapon ensues.
Creasy intervenes and kills Soares, but is shot in the chest in the process.
Fortunately he survives with non-fatal injuries.
How Does Season 1 Conclude?
And in the aftermath, the whole truth finally comes out.
Carmo is arrested as a conspirator and Creasy’s name is cleared.
Melo chooses to stay in Rio, determined to help the country recover from within. Vico and Livro then go to work for Ivan.
Poe has been living with her grandmother now and the Rayburns finally get a proper funeral.
As the last scenes unfold, the CIA director approaches Creasy with new orders.
The man he’s after is tied to the same cell that ambushed his team in Mexico City.
Creasy agrees to review the mission, opening up the possibility of another chapter.
Review – Episode
There’s a lot of action, major character payoffs and answers we’ve been waiting for in Episode 7, but it also brings into focus many of the season’s biggest weaknesses.
Tappen’s trap is certainly clever, but it seems a bit too complicated, and at times almost unbelievable, particularly when experienced government agents are so easily led into it.
The action sequences are fun, but the lack of real stakes reduces the tension. The final showdown in a hospital packed with armed officers should be impossible, but the main characters manage to move through it with surprisingly little resistance.
But the most powerful element of the finale is Creasy’s emotional journey. It’s a nice way to end his character arc that he decides to stop running from his pain and stay by Poe’s side.
But having spent so much time developing side characters like Livro, Melo and Vico, their endings feel a bit rushed.
Man on Fire Season 1 ends on an entertaining note overall, but it also reinforces the feeling that this story might have been better off as a tightly focused film rather than an extended multi-part series.
