CIA – Season 1 Episode 9 “Blood Money” Recap & Review

CIA Episode 9 opens with Abdul Akkad releasing a video taking responsibility for a recent terror attack on foreign ships and warning of more attacks to come.
Colin meets Zara, a wealth manager in Istanbul who provides critical intel about the drone attack in New York. She says that one of her clients, the company Levni, is secretly financing Akkad. She had found a suspicious transaction, dug deeper and found links to the terrorist network. Zara offers her help to the CIA in catching Akkad, in exchange for asylum and a deal. She gives Colin the chance to come with her to Selma Levni’s wedding that weekend and puts him directly into contact with the family.
Meanwhile Bill visits Kimberly Graham in prison, to find out how mercenaries followed them to their safe house during a previous operation. For a lesser sentence, she admits that the breach was carried out by Pyramid Security. Bill is worried about this, because his secret girlfriend works there. He confesses to Jubal that he suspects Colin to be the CIA mole, but Jubal says he needs proof.
Back at the office, the team fills Larry in on Akkad. He tells them to follow Zara’s lead and find Akkad. Nikki sends Bill undercover to assist Colin at the Levni rehearsal party.
Before the event Colin meets his secret tech contact, Kinski and asks her to prepare an untraceable USB device to help him breach Pyramid Security’s network. She says she’ll have it Monday.
Zara offers a glimpse into the Levni family at the rehearsal dinner. Selma is engaged to Ali, an advocate for clean energy. Selma’s brother, and acting CEO, Nasir, is believed to have links to terrorism. The youngest sibling, Kerem, is volatile and impulsive, a person Colin thinks he can control.
Nasir toasts at the event but suddenly collapses and dies after sipping champagne. Bill tails a suspicious waiter, but gets nothing useful out of him. Toxicology later confirms he was poisoned with cyanide.
Colin goes after Kerem to find the motive, while Bill targets Selma and Ali. Colin connects with Kerem over racing and eventually confesses to being in the CIA. Kerem is horrified that his brother might be involved with terrorists and he agrees to help.
Selma later tells Bill that Nasir took over the company when it was failing. He did dangerous deals to prop it up, but later wanted out. She holds those partners responsible for his death.
But the CIA initially suspects Kerem, pointing to financial evidence of an art purchase that could have funded the assassination. Colin suspects he’s given himself away but Kerem sets up another meeting.
During that meeting, Gina interrogates Colin as he secretly clones Kerem’s phone. Meanwhile, Colin gets a call from Sarah about picking up her son, and calls Kinski again when he learns that Pyramid Security is upgrading its firewall.
Bill goes after Ramzi, the art dealer connected to Kerem. Ramzi denied his involvement but made straight for the Levni hotel. This leads the team to uncover a major twist: Ali was behind Nasir’s murder and had always been a puppet for the terrorist group, Al Sulam.
A fake attack at an airport for private aircraft is staged by the CIA in an attempt to force Ali into a confession. Ali confesses to everything, he thinks he is in danger. The CIA convinces Selma to work for them, but she is devastated by the betrayal.
When the case is over Bill secretly tails Colin, and sees him go into Kinski’s building. Bill is worried about Colin hacking the CIA, and gets in his face. Colin denies being the mole and offers to work together, leaving the episode on a tense but uncertain note.
Review the
Great plot development in this episode, but is missing the most anticipated scene of the episode- the confrontation between Bill and Colin. The tension is rather undeveloped, and it’s pretty clear from the start that Bill doesn’t really believe Colin is the mole.
But the story does leave us with some interesting questions heading into the finale. Colin’s relationship with Sarah is becoming more suspect—whether it is real or a calculated maneuver is still unknown. The stakes have never been higher and the next episode promises answers as Bill and Colin team up to find the truth, racing against time to expose the real mole.
