Kelly Kruger is joining the long-running daytime drama General Hospital as Serena Baldwin, one of the soap’s most recognizable legacy characters, ABC’s General Hospital is bringing back.
Soap fans are already buzzing over casting news as Serena has deep roots in the show’s history and has been off the Port Charles map for nearly a decade. Kruger is stepping into the role previously played by Carly Schroeder and it’s a huge new chapter for the beloved character.
Serena Baldwin is the daughter of Scott Baldwin and longtime fan favorite Dominique Stanton and is a member of one of General Hospital’s most established families. Her origin story remains one of the more memorable storylines in the history of daytime television. Scott’s ex-wife Lucy Coe was one of Dominique’s surrogates during her battle with a terminal brain tumour, creating a very unique family dynamic that has remained an important part of Serena’s background.
Serena is a familiar face to viewers of the Port Charles spin-off series but she’s been largely off our screens in recent years. Her last appearance was in 2017, when she briefly returned to honor her grandfather, Lee Baldwin.
That will soon change.
“Kruger has started shooting scenes for the series, with production starting June 8, 2026. Fans can expect Serena’s official return to Port Charles when the character debuts on screen this July.
The actress is a familiar face on daytime television. She was known for her character Mackenzie “Mac” Browning on The Young and the Restless and also portrayed Eva on The Bold and the Beautiful. Her extensive soap opera experience makes her a natural choice for a character with Serena’s deep history and emotional layers.
In addition to her television work, Kruger has cultivated an impressive digital presence, growing her audience through social media and content creation. Her ability to connect with the audience on and off screen could help bring Serena Baldwin to a new generation of General Hospital fans.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kruger to the show and Frank Valentini, Executive Producer, praised the casting decision. The actress also took to social media to share her excitement, calling her return to daytime TV a dream opportunity.
The timing of Serena’s return could be especially important for the show’s ongoing story lines. Many fans have been longing for General Hospital to return to its glory days and Serena’s return to the fold does just that.
Her arrival also brings a number of interesting story possibilities. Serena is Cody Bell’s maternal half-sister whose recent storylines have centered around family ties and inheritance issues. The introduction of a biological sister unknown to Cody could dramatically change Cody’s future, and could create new conflict within the Baldwin family.
And Serena’s return automatically ups the presence of veteran characters Scott Baldwin and Lucy Coe. Their shared connection to Serena provides General Hospital a chance to merge its newer stories with the rich legacy that has helped define the series for decades.
Filming is already underway, and expectations are high for Serena Baldwin’s long-awaited return as she’s set to make her debut in just a few weeks. Years of soap opera experience, a strong screen presence and a proven ability to handle emotionally driven material make Kelly Kruger an intriguing choice to carry the character forward.
While Serena’s return is exciting for fans, they will be watching to see how it will affect some of the biggest relationships and storylines of the show as Port Charles gets ready to welcome her back.
